Bank question
Background: I added DH to my checking and savings some time ago, since his bank sucked.
I get a phone call from our bank asking to speak with DH. I tell the woman he is not available, explain that I am his wife and ask what's going on. She tells me she cannot discuss it with me. I ask her why, because my name is on the account, and I am the original owner. She tells me that due to security purposes she can only discuss it with the person whose name appears on her screen.
Why in the world would they put just one name? And then, why his?
Just feeling cranky about it- it seems like everyone assumes the man in in charge.
It happens for apartment related stuff, too. I was the one who looked for the apartment, made the appointments, etc. But they always ask for him until I insist I can take care of it.

Re: Bank question
It stinks bigtime, but it's for security measures and believe me...it's best that way.
Anyone can say they're the "spouse," especially since they ask lame-o questions like "what's the last 4 of your SS$, confirm address, last deposit, etc" - all information that anyone can have access to.
We bank w/commerce and have a joint account where DH is the original owner - they call him to discuss his matters and likewise for me, but never for each other.

Re: Bank question
I had a similar situation. Someone sent us a check that had both of our names on it. It was for $50. I went to cash it and they wouldnt let me because they said DH needed to be there too. I said why is that when my name is on the account too??? It was because the person wrote it out to both of us and they couldnt cash it without both people there. They said well how do we know that your DH wants you to cash this? etc....I was mad so I left and went to the bank with DH a few weeks later.

Re: Bank question
I would be happy that they are taking security measures rather than talking about your bank account to the entire world!
but it does suk that they always think the man's in charge!

I was a bank teller in college- you wouldnt believe the cr@p people tried to pull - unfortunatly there are people out there that are separated, etc, that try to get away with it.

I'm all for security measures.
I think it just sucks that they assume he is the final authority on a bank account that I originally opened, kwim?

i agree with that. your name is on the account, bottom line, you should be privy to whatever he is privy to

Not only your name but if it was originally your acct that you added him to then it should have your SSN as the primary acct holder!

Maybe it was something with a check that only he signed, or a checked written only to him or his ATM card.

While I totally agree with the fact that people pull shady stuff - I see it that she is the primary name on the account - they should be able to confirm this and give her an answer - it sounded like she was too lazy to look and see if your name was on the account - that is not right.
I hear you about the guy thing. I have been using this travel agent online (we speak on the phone). Now I call and make the booking, putting the deposit and final payment on MY credit card, etc. Everytime she needs something she calls or emails asking for my DH - I called and left a message for her a few weeks ago and she called back and asked for DH.

Did he also move over an individual account? Maybe they are calling about that account.
