I am not 100% sure, but I would think so. I would think medical bills are a big reason people might go bankrupt.

Yes I believe so. Medical bills are on the top of the list for why people file for bankruptcy.

wow...i didn't even know you can claim bankruptcy due to medical bills (i can see how someone would BECOME bankrupt because of medical bills, but had no clue it can be claimed)

it seems that medical expenses are no longer exempt under the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention, Consumer Protection Act of 2005.
someone also has to be under the mean income requirement for NYS to declare the easier chapter 7 or they have to declare chapter 13
according to the IRS and this new law, here are the new monthly allowable living expenses..

I am a BK paralegal and yes you can claim medical bills. They changed the laws, but most people still qualify to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
