Baptism help needed

DH and I are both Catholic, however, me and my siblings were never confirmed. We want to baptize DD Catholic but we chose my sister and brother as Godparents and as far as I have been told, Godparents need to show proof of confirmation. What options, if any, do I have?

TIA

Re: Baptism help needed

It depends on the church. Def call them and see what their requirements are.

My church, one 1 godparent needs to show proof of baptism, communion and confirmation, the other just needs to be baptized as a min.

This makes me feel so much better. Ladies that didn't have to show proof, which Church did you have your DC Baptized in?

At my church 1 godparent person needs to be a practicing catholic and needs to present a "letter of eligibility" from their church.

ETA: when I was a godparent I had to do that too.

Re: Baptism help needed

In my church at least one godparent had to be Catholic and I had to provide original documents showing both godparents received all their sacraments.

We didn't have to show any proof - either that we ourselves had received any of the sacraments or that the godparents had.

Call your church and find out what the requirements are...if they require proof...call a few other local churches and see what they require.

Re: Baptism help needed

We just baptised my DS catholic. We were told that only ONE of the Godparents had to be Catholic. His Godmother was never christened at all and his Godfather is Catholic. We didn't have to show any proof of him being Catholic.

Re: Baptism help needed

We were told that you could have a sponsor that isn't Catholic, as long as there is one Catholic Godparent. Call the priest.

Re: Baptism help needed

I searched and found a church that did not require any paper proof for the godparents. You would think in this day and age with all the goings on at the RC church that they would make it EASIER to baptise babies, not more difficult....

Re: Baptism help needed

DS was baptized at Christ the King in Commack just this past weekend. Neither of my godparents had to do anything to show proof, and only one godparent even had to be catholic.
Each church is different, DH and I have 5 godchildren and in only 1 case did I have to show proof of my sacraments that was for a church in Ronkonkoma

Me neither. They just wanted ONE to be of the catholic denomination...but nothing about being confirmed.

Re: Baptism help needed

When I baptized my 2 nieces we didn't have to show any proof. We just needed to be Catholic.

When I had DS baptized the God parents had to show a letter of eligibility from their church.

Re: Baptism help needed

At our church at least 1 godparent had to bring in a letter from their parish signed by a priest stating they received their sacraments. My SIL is not Catholic & she was technically only allowed to be a "witness." To us she's still the godmother (just not in the church's eyes).
