Baptism party question

We planned on renting tents and having a party catered in our yard for Ryan's baptism but our home has been under renovation for a while now (we've been working on it since we moved in a year and a half ago). Anyway, it's not going to be done in time to be party ready (the main floor bathroom will function but be in mid-renovation).
So, we have been looking into venues and having a hard time finding something in our budget and that's available (timing is awkward and a lot of places won't give us a private room for the hours we need it).
Anyway, we could probably rent a Knights of Columbus space and do it there, but the other option is doing it in my mom's yard which is pretty party-friendly and there's an inground pool.
I'm having a hard time warming up to doing it at mom's b/c I feel like a failure or something - I really want to give Ryan a proper party and feel silly having to use my mom's house. However, I know it'll probably be nicer there then at a KoC.
Clearly I'm rambling today but WWYD? Rent something afforable but know you're doing it all on your own for your DC or use mom's house?

ETS it is in late June

Re: Baptism party question

Why would you feel like a failure to do it at your mom's?
I would definately do that if it was ok with your mom.

I just feel like a child to have to use my mom's house instead of a grow up throwing it myself.
Plus she has a young daughter who was baptized last year and I feel like it's the same party - I just want to give Ryan something special.
She is happy to have it there.

Re: Baptism party question

myself, I would go ahead and do it at moms---I don't think it makes you seem like a 'failure' at all!

If you do it at your mom's house you could save a lot of money that you could use for other baby things. I do not think you should feel like a failure if you have it at your mom's house. It will be so much fun with the pool.

I doubt we'll save much $$ after the cost of tents and catering - but def. some.

I would do it at your moms... it will be nicer there I bet and you don't have to worry about the timing situation. Not to mention guests can stay as long as they want!

Re: Baptism party question

Failure??!! No way. You should have the party that best suits your needs. I think a pool party at your Mom's in late june is a great idea.

We did an outdoor party for Ava's 1st B-day. We rented tents, tables and chairs and had the Collesium Deli come and bbq. It was reasonably priced, they supplied all of the equip, food, snacks, drinks, ccoking and clean up. It was a great party!
