Baptism party suggestions
We've booked the church for DS's baptism on Aug 22nd. We are inviting 40 adults and 19 kids (all different ages), and looking for suggestions for the party. I'm not sure if we should have it in our backyard and have it catered/hire waitresses, or if we should do it at a restaurant. I'm not looking to spend a crazy amount of money, but my DH has a big family and he doesn't think we can cut anyone from the list.
How much do you think it would cost with that amount of people? Any suggestions on locations (I'm in Massapequa) or catering/entertainment if we do a backyard BBQ? TIA!

Re: Baptism party suggestions
we just had a party for about 72 people in my mom's backyard in Amityville and used Guy Anthonys in merrick (www.guyanthonys.com) for catering..
For 70 people, they were about $800 plus $25/hr for the wait staff (each- we had 2- totally worth it)... this was food only.. didn't include tents, alcohol, chairs/tables, etc... the food was amazing.

It'll probly run you the same - the question is whther you want to get your house rady for a party. I was thinking of Guy ANthony's in Merrick, but it may be too small. Are you doing anything for the kids? Activity books, etc.?
OK- just read the PP - they used guy anthony for catering - they're really good.

Re: Baptism party suggestions
I had 35 adults and 12 kids at Paddy's Loft in Massapequa. The prices were very reasonable, $35p/p and $15 per child (as of October '09). We were very happy with everything!

Re: Baptism party suggestions
We are having DS's on Saturday at our local firehouse. It is being catered by a local place. We are having 40 adults and 10 children. No entertainment. Just crafts and a kiddie table with assorted things to do. For the rental and food it will cost us around 800 dollars. That includes the cake...

Re: Baptism party suggestions
If you decide on a backyard party, I would cater food from Cara Mia Due, it's on Merrick Rd in Seaford right by the movie theater! If you choose to have it out, definitely check them out! The food is amazing and the party packages start at $25pp...and go up from there, but that first package is good!

I've been dying to go there because I've heard so many wonderful things about it! Unfortunately it wouldn't work out. The baptism is on a Sunday at 2pm, so I'm assuming the party would be 3:30 at the earliest. We wouldn't be out in time for them to open the restaurant, so we would need somewhere with a private party room. I didn't realize they did catering, I will definitely look into that. Thanks!

I had my baby shower there and they were amazing. I'm not sure if it would be tacky to have the baptism there too?

If we do the party at home we will probably do some kind of entertainment (DJ/bounce house, something of the sort). Any suggestions to keep kids entertained at a restaurant?

We just had activity books with stickers. I know some people do more craft projects. Ours also had a room that got free after another party - they ended up in there just running all around:).

Re: Baptism party suggestions
I kept a list of what I spent for DS's Baptism which was held at a local hall, and his 1st birthday which was at home. The home party was half the cost. Neither party had any entertainment.
We are doing my newborns's baptism here at home and saving almost $1000 based on the cheapest restaurant I could find.
It also depends on how many people you are having.

Re: Baptism party suggestions
Oh man, definitely check out the catering though! They will also deliver for you with a big order, which is great! The food truly is amazing! I had my rehersal dinner there about 2 and a half years ago...56 people and everyone still talks about it! LOL Check out their movie menu night, I think it's Tues and Wed nights. It's $26.95pp, you get an appt, entree, dessert & coffee and ticket to the Seaford Movie Theater that you can use any day/night/show...doesn't expire! They DO NOT jip with the portions for this either...it's so good!
