Basement Remodel

We are looking to finish our basement with our tax return this spring/summer. How much should I expect to spend? Right now our basement is a cellar (cement walls and all) so we need sheet rocking, ceiling, I would like hi-hats and obvioulsy electricity and a heating hookup. We are also considering adding a bath, ir not now, then in the next year, so I would like estimates for that.

Also, any recommendations? I want to get a move on.

I was just going to start a post and ask the same question. Sorry I have no advice for you, but I was going to start this weekend going to Home Depot to price out supplies. I was going to also start calling names I find in the Yankee Trader to get some estimates. Good luck. I'll let you know how we do.

We paid around $17k. They had to put up new sheet rock, new ceiling, new high hats, tear down a closet, install cabinets and couter top, build new mantal around the fireplace, replace window and doors, rework the staircase, and put up our plasma. i think adding a bath would add a lot to the cost. here is a picture of ours (there are more in my community photo album):

My friend just finished a basement remodel this winter. It is similar to the picture above and without the bathroom was $18,000.

That sounds a little high, I live in a high ranch and redid the first floor with a complete kitchen, bathroom, living room, and bathroom with a small extension of 9*13 and all new windows and siding and am paying $32,000.00. My contractors name is Danny and his number is 631-445-9114

I think $18k sounds about right to finish a basement including labor and materials. (not including cost of a bath)

My DH has done basic basement apartments from scratch with kitchen, bath, living/dining & bedroom, closets & all finishes for 25k
