Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
Originally we thought the baby would sleep in our room, in the pack and play, until we felt comfortable letting him sleep in his crib. But our bedroom is pretty small, and I'm thinking a bassinet would take up less space than a pack and play.
I'm not sure what else we would use the pack and play for. It's unlikely we'd be sleeping over somewhere, and our home is one story.
Am I missing something, or is there really no need for us to have a pack and play? Would a bassinet serve our needs just the same?
TIA!

Re: Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
Get the pnp too, and get one with a changing table if you can. My home is one story as well, we had the bassinet in our room and the pnp in our living room. I really liked (and like) having the pnp in here, I could change him and store things in it. And he napped in it when he was super tiny, which was nice b/c I could relax on the couch while he napped and be in the same room.

Re: Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
I STILL haven't opened the PNP!!
DD sleeps in a cosleeper in out room. I think they take up the least room of all, and can be used as a bassinett too.

Re: Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
At 14 months old, my daughter STILL uses the pack n play every, single day. That's where she starts her day and that's where she ends it. When she wakes up, she goes straight in there to drink her first cup of milk for the day and read her books and basically wake up. She also goes in there to do the same for her bedtime routine. Ontop of that, we use it for when one of us is home alone with her and needs to shower, or when we need to use the bathroom. When I lived in my apartment, it was a life saver for when I had to cook dinner. She hated being confined in a bouncy seat once she hit 5 months, so the pnp gave her freedom. We also love it because when we go for dinner at someone's house, we can bring it and all eat without having to worry where she is. I'll feed her dinner, then put her in the pnp to play while all the adults eat together. I guess my point is that the pnp will have a million different uses, so I wouldn't pass on it.

These are great points, I didn't think about its uses beyond the tiny infant stage. Sold! Thanks for your input.

I like the co-sleeper a lot too.

Re: Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
The only time Marron has used the pnp is when we've gone someplace. It has come in really hand this summer, when we've gone to people's houses for the day and she needed to nap, or when we were there til all hours of the night, we could put her to sleep at her regular time. She would never stay in it at home to just play though.

Re: Bassinet vs. Pack and Play
I have both and to me they serve 2 different purposes.
The bassinet is used in our bedroom for the night. The PNP is in our living room and is used also everyday. Right now he is using the bassinet part. He stays with us. We have 2 dogs and that's the only way he can stay with us in the living room without having us worry my dogs will leak his face when I turn my back to them. I can leave him in the PNP and not worry.
In the long run, I wil use the PNP a lot more. He will outgrow his bassinet in our bedroom very soon. He is getting big. He is 8 weeks old. While DS will move to his crib at night, I will still use the PNP for him to play while I do stuff in the house.
