Bath and Body Works shoppers- have you noticed this too?
The last few times I've been to Bath and Body Works (Danbury Fair Mall) I've been tempted to walk out- the salesgirls there are so pushy and annoying. I know they've always had lots of girls on the floor, but they were never so aggresive.
I ask for help if I need it, but if I linger over anything, I have some chick on my shoulder telling me about cherry tree oil or some other crap ingredient that I don't care about. It's really aggravating. Today I went in because I love the antibacterial soaps, and we were stopped *3* times. Then when I was picking out the soaps another girl told me that they were 3 for $10. No kidding Sherlock, I can read. I wish I had the nerve to say, "I'm trying to shoplift, will you leave me alone?"
Have the stores on LI recruited pushy Stepford Salesgirls too? I'm tempted to write a letter but maybe most people want that level of service.

Yes I agree. When you walk in they ask if you need help with anything. If say no that you are just looking, they follow you around. Once they see you pick up something they will procede to ask if you want to try it on or pressure you into getting something to go with it. If someone says they are looking be gracious enough to walk away and let them look on their own.

OMG I used to work there part-time for the holiday season (not that BBW but a Long Island mall) and we were always told to be pushy....and I did not like that.

I feel bad for them because I'm sure they have to. When I worked at Sears portrait even though we did not work on comission we had to offer every paret every single thing even if they came in saying "I want this, nothing more". My boss was so pushy and I had to be so pushy when she was around, I don't know how she lived with herself

I've been followed on LI. After a while, I picked up a foot lotion and the girl said, "We have blah blah blah that goes with it if you're interested." I said, "But I'm NOT interested; if I want it, I'll check it out myself." She finally left me alone.
"Stepford Salesgirls" I love it!

I've also been followed around BBW. I also hate the new set-up of the store with their signature products and cashiers all the way at the back of the store. I swear it is like Ms. Pacman: it is like a maze and you have to dodge the monsters (i.e. sales girls) in order to get there.

Same here! I worked there for Christmas (again a different location) a couple of years ago and that's what we were trained to do...sell sell sell. You'd think we were going to be getting commision . Needless to say, I quit that very quickly. I hate being pushy.

Yeah, I'm sure they have to also, which is why I just do my phony smile and say no thanks.
They probably don't work on commission- I don't know how they'd attribute sales to any one person. Years ago when you bought something at NY&Co the cashier would ask if someone helped you and if so who the person was.

I think it is that whoel comapny. I woprked for Express years ago ( and they were owned by the same company) & we were pretty much told to me pushy. I can see the exact same techniques in any of those stores now. I don't know if they are on commissions, but when worked at Express, we "earned" our hours, based on how much we sold & how many CC accounts we opened.
I'm not sure why Bath & Bodyworks has gotten more like that, I guess they are trying to compete with high end stores.

Yeah, at Exprss they did that too, and that's hwo they'd decided who to give more hours to on the schedule. I've noticed Ann Taylor Loft does this too.
