BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer? NEED RECIPES!!!

If you have any recipes... please come in!!!!! Chat Icon

*****************************

Woudl eat BBQ ribs, corn bread, etc...? at a Summer birthday party?

DS' theme is "wild west".

DH thinks ribs will be way too messy.

I was thinking:
burgers
hot dogs
coleslaw
ribs
corn bread/muffins
Maybe chili

Any thoughts?????

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer?

what about slow cooker pulled pork sandwiches? I make it all the time. It's sooooooo easy and people love it. Serves a lot of people. You can serve it with rolls, coleslaw, mac and cheese and baked beans.

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer?

You don't have to smother them in sauce..we dont. We don't use BBQ sauce on our ribs..just seasonings.

Pulled pork or pulled chicken is also a great idea, but can be a little messy too.

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer?

We did and everyone LOVED them!

I made them myself...used 2 crockpots FULL...and people were asking for more!!

If you are having other things as well, people can decide on whether or not they want them.

If you want to make them yourself, let me know...I have such an easy recipe!!

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer?

we did ribs at our last well first party at the house (last year) we had the following:

Beans - we make our own specialty sweet beans
String bean and potato salad (with a light vinaigrette)
Fajita bar (steak & chicken) sauteed peppers & onions
Saffron Rice
Ribs
Potato and mac salad (traditional)
& did burgers and hot dogs

Everyone ate the ribs and fajita bar and only one person ate the hot dogs. Beans & peppers and onions and rice went. No one wanted the mayo salads.

We also had plenty of paper towels and since its a kids bday party i would have wet naps.

Would the ribs be for the kids or parents? Not sure how popular ribs would be with 4 year olds? I know as a parent ribs are hard to eat - esp if you are chasing your kid around. I think burgers, hot dogs are easier back yard fare.

I like the rest of the menu and think that the chili sound good. I don't think you need the ribs - what about maybe bbq or rotissorie chicken instead if you want an additional item.

Sounds like it will be a great cowboy party!

YES!!!!

Not everyone has to like ribs in order for you serve it.

I think a lot of people will enjoy them!

Menu sounds great and there is variety for your guests to choose from.

Great theme!

You can do a variation of a chili hotdog by doing a hot dog, cheese & beans for kids.

My mom has a great pulled pork recipes (crockpot) & DH had a great rib recipe. I can get my moms & will try to get DH's . We get the ribs from Costco.

Agree that cornbread is a must with ribs.

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer? NEED RECIPES!!!

I have a quick and EASY and AMAZING rib recipe... you par boil the ribs in pineapple juice, then put them on a baking sheet or something like that, cover in BBQ sauce and broil in the oven for about 10-15 mninutes... flipping them over half way through... they are so so good, I make them for parties all the time and everyone loves them!

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer? NEED RECIPES!!!

We did a big cowboy-theme party for DH's 30th.

SIL made awesome jalapeno grits....everyone loved them. We also had homemade mac & cheese (obv the kids loved this, so did the adults), corn casserole (I have a really easy, awesome recipe for you!), pulled pork, can't remember what else, but it was DELISH. People are still raving about the food (SIL is an amazing cook so that helped Chat Icon )

ETA: HEre's a link to a post I made about the food: LINK

We did pulled pork/burgers/dogs corn, corn bread, cole slaw etc at DS's 2nd birthday and got such raves we did it again for his 3rd. I will get you DH's pulled pork recipe if you want it. Its super easy b/c you can make it ahead and just keep it warm in the crock pot.

Re: BBQ/Ribs party in the Summer? NEED RECIPES!!!

I've had ribs at a party before and it went over big. If you want to steer away from ribs, you can do pulled pork.

At DS's 1st birthday we did this style food. We had:

BBQ ribs
pulled pork w/rolls
chicken legs & wings
macaroni & cheese
beans
coleslaw
corn bread
