bcp question, sorry if tmi
I am planning on going off BCP asap, but I want to stay on them until I go to Hawaii in a few months, so I don't have AF there... If I stay on my bcp schedule, I will have it for a few days there... Do you think I should double up on a month soon, so I won't have it than, or are the side effects of that bad? Also, since I'm going to TTC as soon as my cycle regulates off the pill, is it bad to stop a pack in the middle of the cycle or does it not matter? I'm just anxious to ttc. TIA

Re: bcp question, sorry if tmi
There is no reason to double up on birth control pills. That would mean a double dose of hormones. The only time when I would double up on a BCP is if I missed one day and had to take 2 at once. Taking 2 pills doesnt change the potency of the pill.
Also, I wouldnt stop a pill in the middle of a pack or you may have breakthrough bleeding and it may be hard to see how your cycle regulates.
Ask your doctor.

If you want to change your period, you can do that by not taking the last week of pills (when you would have af). Instead start a new pack & that will prolong your period for 1 month.
I did this for my wedding & had no problems.

I did this for my wedding/honeymoon as well. I actually did it for 3 months, which they say is fine. I don't know when you are planning to go to Hawaii, but sometimes the first month you do this you can have some spotting at the time AF is due. This is why I started it a month before my wedding. I got married in Dec. Started the pills in Oct after AF, had no AF for Nov, Dec, or Jan then I went off the pills.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to do, I meant not taking the placebos, not actually doubling up on pills.... Just wanted to see if there was any side effects from that. Thanks!

I didn't have any side effects other than the usual ones associated with the pill.

Some people get side effects from doing that. Look very carefully at your cycle for the months leading up to Hawaii and see if you can change your cycle in advance (instead of taking the pills straight through while in Hawaii, or right before you leave), AND check with your GYN. There are some BCP forumlas that you can't do this with.

Re: bcp question, sorry if tmi
i did this for my honeymoon, skipped the placebo week and just went to a new pack. i was taking a monophasic pill(meaning same dose of hormones in all 21 pills), but you should check with your gyn if you take a bi- or triphasic pill.
