BCP Questions
Does your doctor prescribe them to you at your 6 week checkup?
I'm so nervous to mess with my body again with them - I remember when we started TTC and I went off them thinking how I heard so many things about them that I was so nervous I wouldn't get pregnant. Obviously not a problem but I am so nervous for next time - stopping them again, etc. Would I be taking a huge risk not going on them or do you think I am crazy for even thinking of not going on them at this point? I hear you are extremely fertile right after giving birth. Not sure what to do!

Re: BCP Questions
I have no idea, I will ask my doctor though. I totally trust the pill form that's why I only thought of that as an option.

Re: BCP Questions
I didn't want the pill b/c it did mess w/ my body too much but I don't want to risk more babies ... for the time being I got Mirena 2 weeks ago and I have been really pleased w/ it. I asked my doctor if it was someone in his own family what would he recommend and he said he did - to his wife

Yeah I just remember being so stressed - do I go off of it before, the month we try, how much before, etc. I went right back to a 28 day cycle but I don't know if I'll have that much luck the next time around.
What is Mirena?

What is Mirena?
It's an IUD - inserted by the doctor (bleeding is an initial side effect) and you can have it removed as soon as you'd like to start trying again. I could go there next week and have it taken out, if I wanted - there is no minimum amount of time it has to be in and it takes effect immediately. IUDs years ago got such bad raps b/c they caused Pelvic Inflammatory Disease - but the new generation have virtually no adverse effects.

Re: BCP Questions
I was thinking about the Mirena also, but have not done anything yet. I didn't want to go back on the pill or the patch again.

Re: BCP Questions
Sorry to barge in on your board but I wanted to say that I got the Mirena IUD after my second child and I love it! I will say that I had spotting/bleeding for the first month it was in, and after my body adjusted, AF hardly is there, so light and lasts only 2-3 days. It's good for 5 years, and I'm still trying to decide if I want it out early to try for a 3rd, but for now its great!

Re: BCP Questions
I have no idea what I will do.
So ironic... for years and years I was annovulatory and had to do IVF to even get pregnant. To think all of those years in my twenties I was on BCP... all of those wasted co-pays
But, I was told I could now turn into "Fertile Myrtle" . DH and I agreed only two kids but I'm psychologically not ready to get my tubes tied. After all, we just got my system to work
Pill, or hormone, in any form is out... I'm over 35 and stroke runs in my family. Dad had one at 57
I just don't know about an IUD... I don't think it's for me. I'm old enough to remember the problems from the in the 80's.
For years I was trying to get my system to work regularly and now I am paranoid about it working too well.

Re: BCP Questions
Yikes good luck with your decision Theresa!!!
With the Mirena, how long until it takes effect? For most pills isn't it 2 or 3 months?? That's why I'm still wondering if its worth it - not sure what to do!!!

Re: BCP Questions
I went back on the pill. But, now w/ Teresa's post I'm nervous. I'm 36! My husband try to have the tubes tied discussion with me. I said no way in hell. He figured "since their in there" I believe that the man should do it. Alot easier on them then it is on a woman. They are back to work the next day. (Hell, I know someone who did it during his lunch hour & went back to work) Of course husband refused so back on the pill. Though I am thinking of going of them & bringing back the condom!
