BCP to regulate period?

Has anoyone had to be put on BCP's to regulate their period? Since I am still bleeding at 10 weeks pp and they ruled out retained placenta, my OB wants me to go on BCP's to get my cycle under control. I hated being on BCP's when I was on them a few years ago and then after dealing with IF and doing IVF to get pregnant I never thought I would have to be on them again Chat Icon She said I should go on them for at least two months so I was just wondering if anyone had been on them for regulation and how their periods were after going off?

Re: BCP to regulate period?

i went on BCP when i was 18 because my cycles were very short - 17 to 23 days. birth control worked very well for me, got my period every 28 days and i never had any breakthrough bleeding in 9 years. i went off BCP last september and my cycles returned to "normal" - i got AF every 23 to 25 days.

if you are 10 weeks PP and have been bleeding ever since you gave birth, though, i would seek a second opinion - non-stop bleeding would worry me.

Re: BCP to regulate period?

i just started the pill to regulate because i get my period maybe 4 times a year. this is my first month on it and i just got my period for the first time 5 months pp. about 3 years ago i was on it and when i went off my periods went back to being irregular. when they did all the test to figure out why im irregular they all came back normal so i dont know what my problem is. im worried that when im ready for my next baby im going to have problems getting pregnant. this baby was a pleasent surprise because i didnt think i could get pregnant since i never got my period.

My OB the other day wanted me to go on them; I bled for maybe 8 weeks, but 4 months pp, no period. I am starting provera as a first step since I really did not want to put birth control pills back in my body. So we'll see. I wish I had more advice for you, but I'm sort of in the same boat, just in a different way.

Re: BCP to regulate period?

I used birth control pills twice to regulate my period. Once when I was 18 and it lasted for 5 months, and once after I gave birth because it lasted for 2 months.
I was able to get off the pill quickly after both with no issues. And both times, it stopped my period in a matter of days.

I have been in a bunch of times for this- have had 2 sonos, bloodwork and she gave me the option of having a D&C. So it's not like she is taking this lightly. If I felt like I was being blown off about it I would be running to another OB!!

Yeah I am really not keen on taking the BCP's but I figured I would try them before doing a D&C (which she didn't feel would work anyway). I hope the provera works for you and gets you back on track Chat Icon

Just curious, did you also do IVF? I thought I remebered your name from the IF board. I am wondering if all those meds from IVF threw my cycle out of whack because I was always pretty regular before this.

NO, I did not use IVF, but did use clomid. I just think our bodies are simply out of whack after going through all this regardless. Every person is different. Hope things work out for you.
