Becoming a teacher?
Sorry if I'm not in the right place to ask but I was hoping someone in here could point me in the right direction. I've always wanted to be an elementary school teacher. I have young children of my own and thought that maybe by the time they are all in school full time I could be finished with my degree. Since I do have a baby and no child care or help I was wondering if its possible to do my classes online? I would appreciate any advice! Thank you

Re: Becoming a teacher?
im not 100% on this, you would have to do some research, but to be matriculated in a degree program in education, i believe you need to take mostly on-site classes, not online. you will definitely have observation hours, field experience and student teaching hours that you will need to do in schools as well on top of the coursework. you may want to contact BOCES to see what they say, especially if you have any previous coursework or degrees that can count towards your degree or certification. i hate to be the bearer of bad news though, elementary ed, especially on long island, is a very saturated profession. there are TONS of people with degrees and certification who are out of work because there are not enough positions out there... who knows what it will be like in a few years, but its just something to keep in mind. best of luck though!!
