Becoming Baby Wise???

Has anyone read this book? Is it worth reading? I have heard mixed reviews. TIA.

I started reading it around 3 months and I found some of it very helpful. I have Jack on a great schedule that we can manipulate if I need and have a very happy baby that rarely cries. I'm currently on Babywise 2 and he is picking up some sign language now.

My cousin used this with her two daughters and highly recommended it. I never did buy it, and my daughter eventually ended up on a similar schedule to the one described in the book (eat, play, sleep) on her own.

I am going to buy this book on Lauries' recommendation. Aly is sort of this scheduloe on her own (wake, diaper change, eat, stays awake for a good 30-75 min, sleep) but sometimes she falls asleep while eating.

I personally didn't read it because several of my friends did not like it at all.
We actually watch one woman in our group let her son cry from hunger for 30 min because it wasn't "time" to eat.
That just wasn't for me. I also read some stuff online that really turned me off to this whole method.

Just wanted to add she wasen't following their ideas correctly. It's all about learning cues from your child and how if your actually getting hunger cries then your child is way beyond hungry etc... Also it speaks about how in certain social situations bottles may needed more then others for example when travelling, out.. etc.. Also there is a series of books depending on the age of your child. I don't understand that women's problem but she is part of the problem of why the book gets a bad rap. In all honesty the book is very popular in the south as well as in the military community and pretty much every child I know who was raised this way rarely cries and if they do it's because Mom wasen't looking at her watch and lost track of time for a feeding rather then the baby wanted food earlier. I would think that women was probably not giving her child enough Oz's and leaving them hungry rather then starving the child also the book mentions growth spurts etc..
But naturally just like everything you have to take it with a grain of salt that women is at fault because she must have read it incorrectly and obviously ignored numerous cues.

I wouldn't doubt that she didn't do it right. She's an odd woman IMO. I think different parenting styles definitely depend on geographics.
I know that my parenting style is very different than most NY moms and I can see babywise being popular in the south being its a Christian based book ( i think i am right on that). Like out here we have lots of "granolas" or "tree huggers" and we most practice child based parenting/Attachment Parenting.
