bed rest - maternity leave question
My doctor pulled me out of work last week at 35 weeks. He doesn't think I'll make it to my due date, but wants to see me hit 37 wks. I had anticipated working right up until I went into labor and my boss agreed to give me 12 wks.
Do you think this bed rest period counts towards my maternity leave? I'm still logging in to work from my laptop, answering emails and doing conference calls to tie up loose ends.
Also, anyone familiar with how this works with disability coverage? Is this considered pregnancy related and so it's part of the 6 wks for natural birth or 8 wks for CS?
I feel so unprepared and since I work for a very small practice with no HR department I'm getting very few answers at work.
TIA!

I don't have maternity leave but to my understanding from friends it starts the date you are out and ends in that respective time. If you want take your sick/vacation to fill in until you technically give birth if they give that option or you can go on disability but I think that is always complicated and doesn't pay you anywhere near the same.

Re: bed rest - maternity leave question
I think my company treats that as short term disability not part of my FMLA maternity leave.....I'm also 35 weeks and my OB seems to think I will go early (since I lost my mucus plug and I'm 1 1/2 cm as of last Friday), but I feel relatively okay and she hasn't said anything about bed rest yet. If you are still doing work from home, then I would hope they'd treat it just as that, working from home! Good luck!!

Check with your HR dept. Each will count this differently.
I was pulled out at 30 weeks. My Company let me work from home for part of it. The other part was considered strict disability. I was not considered out on maternity until I had a baby in hand.
out maternity leave is part of our disability plan but maternity is completely separate and they cannot start the clockign ticking on the maternity portion until baby is born.
But again I know from hearign other stories on here that my case is not always the case with others.

Re: bed rest - maternity leave question
I think because its a small shop they can count it however they like- they are not bound by FMLA if they have less than 50 employees.
Might be best to ask your boss.
Where I work, they count it as short term disability and it does not count towards the 12 weeks of maternity leave

You would have to talk to your company cause everyone is different. Does your company know you are logging in? I would work something out with them before you make any assumptions.

See if your boss is considering you working right now. If so you should be fine. I too am going to be working from home at the end (up until i give birth) then my FMLA will kick in(currently we do not have maternity leave here).
