Bed rest for possible shortened cervix.....
So I was bleeding a little bit yesterday. Went to dr....baby was fine, they checked my Cervix and said that I was bleeding a little bit from there. They say it could be that I have a shortened Cervix. I go Monday @ 3:30pm to the doctor where my Ultrascreen was done for them to re-measure my Cervix to see if it shortened at all. If it shortened, they can put a stitch or 2 in there to make it better....I am on bed rest until they know Monday what is going on....thank god the baby is fine, but that was scary!!!

Re: Bed rest for possible shortened cervix.....
Make sure they do cultures too. Bleeding fromt he Cervix can indicate an infection which in turn causes bleeding and shortening.
Shortening of the cervix alone does not cause any bleeding. There is an underlaying cause. Either pressure and irritation and or sometimes infection.
I had a lot of cervical bleeding with my 1st Pg and I had a veryy horrible infectiont hat took a long long time to find. I always advise to have people request cultures beyond the obvious vaginal infections.
BEdrest does help shoretning though if you have it.
PRayers for you but Im sure you will be fine, you sound like you have a good Dr. on top of your care!

Re: Bed rest for possible shortened cervix.....
Thanks everyone...Yes my doctor checked my cervix for infection, he said there was no infection...he says it could also be that the placenta detached a drop which he says is not a big deal at all..but that can cause bleeding too. He also says that sometimes people bleed during pregnancy...he did tell me that a shortened cervix can cause bleeding, but we shall see tomorrow!! Thanks everyone for your prayers...he did reassure me that the baby is fine though, so that is a huge relief.

Re: Bed rest for possible shortened cervix.....
Just do the bedrest and you should be fine. Thankfully, they have caught it and if you need a cerclage(stitch) it's really not bad. You may be on bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy, but it will be worth it. (I am...)

Re: Bed rest for possible shortened cervix.....
I had a short cervix and was not on bedrest, but had to get weekly measurements and progesterone shots. My friend, who had previously lost her baby at 22 weeks also due to an incompetent cervix, was put on bedrest for the majority of her pregnancy. If it makes you feel better, I went all the way to my due date and she ended up with a c-section!
eta: my friend had a ceclage put in.
