It looks like you will be breast feeding - I recommend having Lansinoh cream on hand. I used it from day 1 and I never had sore or cracked nipples.

have it already and actually picked up 'earth mama nipple butter' yesterday - i kinda liked that better! felt less 'greasy'....(in the hopes of 'preparing my nipples' for breastfeeding)...if that's even possible..

we have the bottle drying rack and lap pads as well (but i do want to grab more of those).
also have the baby food storage thing from Skip Hop - once we get to THAT point...(told ya - i'm insane).
once i decide about the boppy versus brest friend - i'll grab another cover for the boppy....i truly don't know which one will be better for me...

Jess - Since you are *ahem* like me and well endowed, I have a feeling you will find the My Breast Friend to be much easier and much more comfortable then the boppy pillow. I could never find a comfortable position with the boppy, and the Breast Friend was SO much better.

For Emma:
Some of this may have been covered, but just in case, lol
Bassinet/Cribs pads - these are little thin pads to lay under them....it is a lifesave for a leaky diaper or spit up in the middle of the night. Instead of having to change sheets at 3am, you can just pull this out from under them and lay a new one down. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3368921 Some type of diaper caddy for your room, either a basket or
bought this EXACT one yesterday!!!! i want to grab a few more - how many would be a good number to have on hand? 1 or 2 - or more like 2 or 3??
added the diaper caddy thing to my list TODAY - because i realized i didn't like the changing table drawer stuffed full of diapers!

OK, for some reason even though I didnt submit it, it partially posted above, here is my repsonse in full, lol.

The only other thing I LOVED, was the baby gowns with the drawstring at the bottom, so convenient for night time so when are you changing diapers in the middle of the night, you dont have to undress DC, I found it was easier to change DS and keep him asleep with these at night.
For you: Nipple Cream - like the Lansinoh Nursing pads and nursing bras/tanks? Jar of Tucks pads - keep them refrigerated, if you tear or have an episiotomy, these, all nice and cold, are a girls best friend. Also, make sure you have overnight maxi pads on hand at home, youll need them....even in the day time.

Just FYI...I was specifically told by my pedi that she was seeing quite a bit of babies come in having reactions to the "sensitive" diaper items, ironically enough. She said you are better off using unscented since its often the fragrance that is the irritant.
Oh and for the hospital, bring a notepad and folder, its good to have to keep cards in and all the paperwork you get, and the pad is great to jot down feeding times, BMs and wet diapers and any questions you think of that you want to ask the nurse, as well as keeping track of who brings you what gifts in the hospital so you can write thank yous later.

That's interesting that you mention that. DS had a horrible diaper rash in the hospital and I'm almost positive it was due to the wipes. I'm pretty sure they were sensitive wipes, but I can't remember which brand. We've been using the Kirkland wipes since DS came hom and we haven't had a problem since then.
Also, if you're concerned about chemicals used in baby products, you may want to look into California Baby and similar brands instead of Johnson & Johnson products.

Jess..I think you have it all covered. If you plan on BF, I would really try out the mybreastfriend. It was a lot easier than the boppy.
ITA with this. I just can never say enough good things about the Brest Friend. I literally wouldn't have stuck with BF if I hadn't been shown this pillow by my LC. It quite literally saved my back.
Oh, make sure you take the nasal aspirator from the hospital--they're so much better than the ones you can buy at BRU

Jess, I'm not sure if you are doing a baby book, but don't forget to pack it if you are this way the nurses can but Emma's footprints in the book for you. Other than that, I think you have it all covered!!

Re: Before Emma Arrives.....(preparation help needed)
Jess - You are SO PREPARED!!! Good for you!
The one thing I LOVE LOVE LOVED was "underpads" - you can usually find them in the adult diaper isle - buy the smallest size. Used to lay them down on top of the changing pad they are thin little sheets with a plastic lining at the bottom in case Emma pees or poos during a diaper change. We also used them on occassion for spit-up issues in the crib/bassinet. They were great and they are disposable!! Similar to the carter's waterproof sheet things. They come in different sizes and most are very large - I totally forget which drugstore had the right size that fit perf on the changing table (sorry!).
Oh, and "Soothies" for your nipples - they are are these gel pads that you keep in the fridge or freezer - those were wonderful for my cracked nips!
You are going to be a GREAT MOMMY!!!!

Re: Before Emma Arrives.....(preparation help needed)
Great lists! You are on your game mamma!! A few obervations:
- Nasal Aspirator. I am sure you have one in your medical supplies but I will tell you this... get a few from the hospital. I have tried 4 different brands and they all suck ballls!! The hospital one is the only one that has good suction. Trust me! Don't forget to pick up Infant Saline nasal drops. You need to use these before sucking boogies outta Emma's nose with the aspirator.
- Tylenol Infant Drops. Get the dye free kind if you can find it. The colored one can and does stain- at least it did on one of DDs outfits.
- Hospital Bag. Not sure where you are delivering but make sure you have all of your showering essentials. The first thing you are gonna want to do when you can get up on your own is take a friggin shower! Don't forget your shampoo/conditioner and a comb/brush. Also pack very comfy pants/sweats/pjs. Not that you can't look all cute, but hey, this ain't a fashion show... comfort is key! Warm socks/slippers are a must too!
- Hospital Gifts. Every night that you are at the hospital, make sure Dave does not go home empty-handed! If there are diapers/diaper cream/chucks/burp clothes/witch hazel pads/huge maxi pads/whatever... have him TAKE IT ALL! You will get replenished and it is expected that you use/take these things. Don't be shy. Have Dave stock up, fill a bag and bring stuff home every night!
You are ready. You will be fantastic. enjoy the next 20 days. Before you know it, you and Dave will never have the same lives again. It's great!! Good luck sweetie!!
ETA: This is also a MUST: ask the nurses for at least two squeeze bottles. You fill them with water and use it to help clean yourself when you go to the bathroom. I would get at least as many as bathrooms you have plus one more.

Re: Before Emma Arrives.....(preparation help needed)
i have to say that from my baby coming 5 weeks early and having literally nothing for her arrival except for the co-sleeper and changing table, you need surprisingly less than you'd think. ok, you do need a carseat (and no we didn't have that, but luckily cabs in brooklyn can be ordered with one!) and clothing (my mom ran out the day after she was born and bought a bunch of preemie clothing and washed it b/c nothing we had fit her) and i would recommend a bouncy seat and/or swing (we only have the bouncer right now) for when you need trips to the bathroom, etc. but you can get by without a lot of the things you'd think are "necessity." that's not to say don't be prepared if you have the time, but don't stress yourself out either - enjoy the time you have left pregnant b/c you'll miss it later. my last few days and my labor rushed by so fast that while i'm overjoyed she's here and wouldn't trade that for anything, i do wish i had taken everything in a little bit more while i had the chance.

Hi Jess- Do you have the side snap undershirts in newborn or 0-3 months? I only ask this becuase they are easier to use in the beginning before the umbilical cord falls off.

Re: Before Emma Arrives.....(preparation help needed)
wow - thank you all for the replies since I left work.
I got home and did the crib sheets and then got caught up in the 'toys' storage in my basement (we've been preparing for baby for a while now)... I sorted them all by age group (for when they are appropriate) and then came upstairs with all the 0-3 month stuff! (much less than i thought - so that's good!)
I'm adding EVERYTHING you're suggesting to my list!!!! My mom asked me to please split the list with her so she can feel like she's contributing (VERY nice - believe me - i appreciate it)!!!!
i have a thing of wipes that are 'alcohol and scent' free - maybe i'll try those first! Thank you for that tidbit about the scent!!!!
