Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

Well I tried to wait it out, but the doctor thinks the best thing at this point is to be induced. I don't know if it makes a diffierence but I'm totally effaced and 2 cm. What should I expect? Any advice? Please share your story!!

Thanks and I look forward to joining all you ladies soon?

Re: Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

I was 80% effaced and 3 cm dialated when they brought me in and gave me cervidil - which started full blown labor within and hour (not normal for most people) Contractions were managable for a while...about 10 hrs in they started getting BAD...and then got worse LOL But be VERY verbal if you want an epi!!!

They gave me pitocin and it made contractions come faster and harder...the epi kicked in and was a miricle.

Aside from contractions....my situation was this: I got to the hospital, went to admitting, was admitted, brought to labor room, given cervadil and put in a regular room in maternity. When contractions got bad and they finally believed me that I was in labor they brought me back to the labor room. Drs came to check me and nurses too - for hours...then they gave me pitocin and the epi ....we pushed and pushed for a couple of hrs, she was in distress and so was I so we had an emergency c/s.

The drs and staff were great - I was very pleased...being induced wasnt bad and I was goin onmy own (like you) but they helped me along a little.

Dont know if this helped but GOOD LUCK dont be scared! You'll bein a very controlled environment which is reassuring, or at least it was to me. Only regret I have is not INSISTING on the epi earlier...I didnt get it til 18hrs IN and 7cm dialated.

Re: Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

I wound up going into labor the night before my induction, but I still got picotcin since the epi slowed down my contractions alot.

The epi was a godsend, i got mine at 3-4 cms and was able to rest before i had to push.

Here's a link about induction, i posted about before my scheduled induction

Good luck!

Re: Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

I was not effaced but was 3-4 cm walking into my induction and contracting already. The Dr. broke my water (painless) and then started pitocin...2 hrs later in some serious back labor I got my epi (ahhhh) and 10 hrs later we were pushing. Ryan came out in 45 minutes! (Which felt like 5, it flew by)

After the epi I was fine, hanging out w/DH and my parents...stalled out at 8cm and they kicked up the pitocin. I did get SUPER tired toward the end, exhausted actually which was weird since I couldn't feel anything. I was like "why am I so tired" LOL. Dr. reminded me that my body was working hard even though I couldn't feel it. DS heartrate was dropping unless I laid on my right side so I had to stay like that a long time and they gave me oxygen. I also developed a fever...none of this was a big deal so they told me. Honestly the delivery was the easy part! Good luck to you and congratulations!!

Re: Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced when I was induced w/Melanie. The contractions weren't too bad, but I did get very very nauseous. It took about 5 hours, and it was overall pretty easy. If you are going for an unmedicated birth it might be hard if they don't let you out of the bed.

Re: Being induced tomorrow...what to expect?

I was exactly how you are...2cm and 100% effaced when i was induced.

My experience was great. The cervadil started contractions 20 mins after they gave it to me. I was given some paid meds in my IV because my back was hurting worse than the front (I had some back labor). I started contracting at 8:30am...they broke my water at 3pm...I got the epidural around 3:30 (only 3 centimeters) and I was stuck at 3 cm for a few more hours.

At 7pm they said that if i didn't dilate to 4cm by 9pm, they would do a c section. Sure enough at 9pm i was 9cm's...by 9:20 I was complete...I pushed for 7 minutes, didn't feel a thing because of the epidural (i think they made my epi very strong though cause i didn't even feel pressure like most do) and John James was born in 5 pushes!

It was an incredible experience, I was 100% alert the whole time and being that effaced before induction really helped me have a short labor. Good luck to you! You will do GREAT!!!!

Eat a nice big fat meal tonight...I was so hungry during the day of induction!! 30 minutes after having him I ate a turkey sub in the hospital bed! Chat Icon
