Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

My dr. mentioned at my appt. today depending on my test results tomorrow they may want to induce me. Something I never really thought about. Being I had contractions and some issues early on, I thought I wouldnt have a problem going into labor. Just wanted to get an idea of what to expect.

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I had an appointment on my due date and we couldn't find the heartbeat with the monitor(TOTAL HORROR!) and so we quickly did an ultrasound and found it. My doc was so concerned she decided to induce me that day.

I had an appoitment that day to the hospital- they put me on pitocin right away. The monitor showed I was starting contractions even before the drug so I probably would have gone into labor on my own that day anyway.

The labor was fine- I got an epidural too early though and they upped it right before I started pushing so I didn't feel anything so they turned it off completely. So I basically had natural childbirth at the end. The only thing I would recommend is waiting until you are truly in pain for the epidural. I should have waited a little longer.

I had a fabulous induction. They placed cervadil(a mediction on the cervix to soften it) at 7pm, removed next morning at 7am(I slept in the hospital). Broke my water at 12noon and started Pitocin(epi at 2pm) and I had my DD at 402pm with 5 pushes. HTH Good Luck

That's what I'm talking about! I am being induced and this is the best case scenario in my opinion. I really hope it goes smoothly.

I had a great induction. I was admitted about 11 pm, they started Pitocin about midnight and gave me something to help me sleep. 10:30 the next morning my water broke. I stayed about 5 cm dialated for a couple of hours. At 3 pm I was 7 cm dialated and asked for the epidural. By the time they came I was 10 cm dialated and had to plead for some relief. They gave me the epi for about 1 hour and then turned it off so I can start pushing. I pushed for about 20 -30 mintues and Molly was born at 5:41pm. I didnt' have an episonotomy (sp) and felt great afterwards. I was up and walking that night and had no pain meds.

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

i was induced with DD for 2 reasons, 1 i had a problem with my platelets & they didnt want to take any more chances. 2. i was a week past my EDD.
I went in for cervidil, followed by pitocin. It was 14 hours start to finish. The worst part was not being able to walk around or get out of bed.
You just have to take it one hour at a time. everyone hanldes pain differently, and everyone's body reacts differently. I think its better to go in with an open mind and try to stay focused.
Good Luck!!!

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

Good to hear that you ladies have had good experiences. My biggest fear is the induction ending up in a c-section. With DS, I was scheduled to be induced since I was a week late, I ended up going into labor the day before on my own. I'm hoping that's the case this time, but if I don't go on my own by Sunday I will be induced on Monday. I had contractions last night for 5 hours straight during the last hour they got to be 7-8 min apart. I thought that this was it and then it just stopped cold turkey. I swear this kid is playing games with me.

I was induced. I wasn't given any pitocin. They gave me cervidil which got me dialated to 3 and then they broke my water. I had no problems progressing from there.

My induction ended in c-section, but it went well.
My water broke at 1am - Called the doctor around 5am (I didn't know it was my water) - Went to his office at 8am to verify - Had cervadil placed on my cervix to soften it around 9 or 10am - Got 2 rounds Picotin... at 8pm I still didn't get passed 4cm's so they did a c-section. It honestly wasn't bad.... Good luck to you!

This is basically what happened to my sister except she did need a c-section at the end. Had cervidil at 7 pm Monday night. Pitocin Tuesday morning at 7am. Hadn't progressed by 2 PM so they opted for the C section because the baby's heartrate was falling with each contraction. She just had her on Tues(Stephanief)

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

we induced by choice. WE went in 2 days before the due date and I was still stuck at 2 cm and 100% effaced.

Why did we choose? DH works retail, so he was able to schedule the day off, we were able to plan around my parents coming into town the next day, and we arranged for someone to be at the house for the dogs.

It was a GREAT experience for me. They started the drip around 9 and she was delivered 12 hours later. They did have to break my water and the period of time between that and the epi was excruciating for me. I finally cried tears of pain.....BEFORE that.....everyone was asking me if I was ok....the contractions were not bothering me really....I was a little uncomfy but for the most part, I was fine. AFter the epi....HOLY COW. IT was so GOOD.....I was so numb that I had no idea my baby was coming out. It felt like the pressure when you have to pee really bad and are holding it in. She popped right out--we didn't even have a chance to turn the tv off in the room. The dr allowed DH to "catch" her since he had EMT experience and he is SO proud of that.

If I am given the choice again to induce, I think we may. It really worked for us and now with DD, being able to schedule it would be AWESOME.

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I was induced at 39 weeks because of my blood pressure. I was already 3 cm dilated and 60% effaced and went straight to the Pitocin. That was started around 8 am, the doctor broke my water around 10, I got the epidural around 11. Things really slowed from there- I kind of wish I'd waited on the epi.

It took till 5 pm to get fully dilated, and then the epi wasn't a lot of help. I had a lot of pain in the end, but then again, I was able to get comfortable enough to sleep most of the afternoon because of the epi, which helped because pushing was really hard for me and I was glad that I was able to get the rest. I only pushed for an hour and 15 minutes, but it was a long hour and 15 minutes!

I was induced with both of my pregnancies and it was fine. They started in the morning and I had the baby that evening.

I was already contracting light for weeks and 2.5cm diilated. Everything was pretty easy with just pitocin. Less than 15 minutes pushing and he came right out. He was ready to come out for a long time! I also had a physical job I think helped...

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I was induced.
I was due May 28

I hadn't had any contractions - I was only 2cm dilated for almost 2 weeks.
On June 9 I was to be at the hospital between 8-8:30 to be induced- we get a call at 7:45 - not to come Chat Icon Chat Icon
There weren't any beds for me Chat Icon
Well, finally at 6:00 they told me to come in.
By 6:30-6:45 - they set up the pitocin and what have you.
By I think 2:00 am - I asked for the epidural (I couldn't take the pain anymore)
Long story short - at 9:50 am - doctor said I am just under 10cm dilated - but I still had a 'lip' there - it wouldn't go away - I couldn't get to 10cm - so after all that time - they wheeled me into the Operating room at 10:00 - I had DD at 10:19 by c-section
We found out that the baby had turned and she was sunny side up - so she would have never come down my birth canal Chat Icon

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I was induced 6 days past my due date. Went in at 7:30 am, got IV anitbiotics because I was strep b positive, got pitocin at around 12 noon, dr broke my water around 2, got the epidural at 5, my progress stalled at 5 cm and baby had gone back up so dr. recommended a c-section at 8:30. We agreed, but got bumped twice due to emergencies. DD was delivered at 10:22 pm. She had to be vacuumed out even with the c-section. I had some problems after she was born with bleeding. They couldn't get my uterus to contract. The dr. said it was tired after contracting all day. They tried 3 drugs then had to put in a special "purse" stitch. I lost a lot of blood. It was kinda scary. But my recovery was a breeze. I think I would have ended up with a c-section anyway (even if I wasn't induced.) She was kinda big - 8 lbs 6 oz. and was up so high. I'm not sure that she ever would have dropped. I didn't want to wait longer to be induced due to the risk of meconium.

I was induced due to my pre-eclampsia. Unfortunately after about 18 hours I had made no progress. I had been leaking fluid so everytime I did contract my son stopped breathing so I wound up having an emergency c-section.

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I was induced...they started with cervadil to get contractions going..it worked within 20 mins-this was at 9am. At 3pm I got my epidural b/c contractions were getting more painful.

The epi let me sleep and dilate on my own..it was wonderful, a true godsend! At 7pm I was only 3cm. The doctor said that if i didn't dilate to at least 4 by 9pm he would do a c-section.

At 9pm he checked me...I was 9cm!! I started pushing at 9:40pm when i was a full 10cm, 5 min later DS was born. I pushed a few times and that was that. I didn't feel a thing.

I had a wonderful induction experience!!! I only pray next time can be as close to that :)

Re: Being induced....what was your experience? why did they induce you? did it work or did you need a c-section?

I was induced due to high blood pressure, 1 week before my due date which should have been March 13th.
Went to hospital, was immediately put on monitor and bp was checked every 15 mins. The babys heart rate was very low so they kept monitoring, gave me cervadil at 7, gave me an ambien to help me sleep. Got up and DH was back at hospital by 7am, waited for dr who said cervadil didnt really work so they added a drip of petocin to my I.V., baby didnt respond well so they did a c-section from there, it was a good experience thoughChat Icon
