Ben's 15 mo. Well Visit...Good and Bad -MMR Shot Info.
Benjamin had his 15 mo. Well visit yesterday. He is doing really well with regards to exceeding milestones for his age group, which we are really happy about.
He is 23 lbs 2 oz and 30 1/4 inches tall.
Now the part I'm not happy about. Ben was due to receive his MMR shot yesterday. After much discussion, DH and I decided that if it were an option, we would break up the shots and do measles first, then mumps and rubella the following two months.
Well that option was taken away from us because although the doctor's would break up the shots, the manufacturer decided to change everything and now only have the vaccines in one single shot instead of three separate ones. DH and I are livid that the option was taken away from parents. We ultimately decided to give Benjamin the MMR shot in one dose but it seriously pizzes me off that the only choice we were given was all or nothing.
While I'm so thankful for our healthy little boy, I am so sad for the turn things have taken with some of the pharmaceutical companies.

Unfortunately, pharmaceuticals are big business and don't care too much for the lil people. I am sorry your choices were taken away from you.

Glad to hear your little one is doing well.....with regards to the shot information...that makes me sick...I do wonder though if that is the case with all of the MMR shots now.....what is both sad and scary is these companies do not care about your child, do not care about the parents choice, all they care about is money....this is precisely why I worry about shots in the first place....who here is looking out for the parents rights and child's health with regards to these shots.....ughh, another topic but very frustrating and I don't blame you for being livid!

I am surprised you got that anwer, because I was allowed the choice to break up the shots. However, Rubella was backordered until next summer, They also explained to me my DS would be getting MORE of the vaccine in the single doses. I went ahead and gave him the MMR. I hope and pray I made the right choice, It has been weighing so heavily on me, but because DS is in day care, I am a bit more leary of him NOT getting vaccines....who knew this would be so hard?

Re: Ben's 15 mo. Well Visit...Good and Bad -MMR Shot Info.
I don't know if this is the case with all doctors or not. I do know that up until last month they were breaking the shots up at our ped office because at Ben's 12 mo appt, we were told it would be an option. Also, my SIL brings her girls there and my niece did get her shots broken up.
I have no idea if there is a cause to be concerned about the shots. I'm not a medical researcher and really don't know. What I am upset about is that the option was even taken away in the first place.

My ped. stock piled on the single doses b/c he figured they would pull it eventually and he has so many parents who want the shot split.

I didn't hear anything about them not splitting anymore...My son got the measles shot in August, The mumps last week, and is scheduled to get the rubella in November.
They will have to give him just the dose of rubella, being that he already had the other two. Did your dr say why they were doing this?

Thanks! I'm not sure why but the doctor said the manufacturer stopped making the shots in separate doses. He said it's possible they will change it again in 2010 but he didn't know for certain why they even changed it to begin with.
