BEST Gift You Got at Your Baby Shower
My sister's baby shower is rapidly approaching and I am trying to decide what to get her. My mom, sister, and I are going in on a big gift in addition to hosting the shower.
What I am really looking for is a smaller gift that is just from me and will be VERY useful for her and/or the new baby. She is the first person I am close with having a baby so I am really at a loss.

It wasn't for my baby shower, but about 2 weeks after DS was born it was was my DH's birthday. My mom got him (well, I guess us) a giftcard to a restaurant and offered to babysit that night!
A couple of weeks after having the baby its nice to get out and relax on someone else's money while someone you trust has the baby.
So maybe a giftcard to her favorite restaurant with a note that you will babysit? Or arrange with your mom to watch the baby one night a couple of weeks when she's feeling better and take her for a spa day.

In a similar light....a friend gave me a nice pair of comfy PJs and slippers. Really thoughtful for the new mommy...not so much baby.

BEST Gift You Got at Your Baby Shower
The best gift I got was a sentimental one from my sister.
She went to a lady she uses for embroidering things and then bought plain white onesies in sizes in the sizes she figured my baby would be around the major holidays.
Then she had a special holiday design printed on each onesie to commemorate every "first" my DD had. It was so beautiful and sweet and every holiday I would put it on her and takes pics and it was added to the baby book. She even had one that said "Happy Anniversary Mom & Dad!" that cracked me up.
The embroidery was so pretty and unique and I looked forward that first year to putting on each and every one from "My First 4th of July" (with a firecracker on it) to "Happy Turkey Day! My 1st Thanksgiving" with adorable turkey. It was truly a gift I will never forget and I have saved each onesie.

that sounds like an awesome gift!!!
the best gift i got was for me. it was a bag with all the toiletries i would need for my hospital stay, along with pj's, slippers, a robe, granny panties...it was the best gift i got by far!

The best gift I got was home cooked meals that I could put into my freezer to take out after I came home from the hospital. I also loved prenatal massages.

A thoughtful gift I got was from my SIL...She got a children's book for each holiday (Easter, Halloween, Christmas) and put a cute message on the back from her so we would remember who it was from.
My sister also got us embroidered burp cloths which I use every day and love. Anything personalized is always a hit!

My mother bought me a collection of my favorite baby books from when i was a kid along with the characters stuff animal, it was a very thoughtful gift that i cant wait to share with my son

I'd have to agree with the prepared meals. With both of my kids my MIL made trays of baked ziti and chicken cutlets and it was exactly what I needed during the first couple of weeks
If you want more sentimental I also enjoy reading the books we got....classic

All wonderful things ...
for the baby, its tricky, they grow fast, they are picky, mommies are picky with what their babies wear/use. I only wanted 1 kind of blanket, and gave away all the others I got, because they just didn't work for baby.

Does she have a name picked out for the baby? After my dd was born we got a personalized puzzle name stool that we loved! My dd is now almost 3 and loves it. It's how we taught her to spell her name. She sits on it all the time. Great gift!

cooked meals. i'm actually expecting my second next month and for mothers day this year my mom just made me a weeks worth of dinner. for me its awesome. my neighbor cooked a meal for me and my husband when we came home with my daugher years ago. i'm hoping she does it again too.

My friend put together a bag of things that were helpful to her when she had her son. It had tons of stuff you never think of but totally need. I do something similar for my friends. I put children's Tylenol, Mylicon, Gripe water, Teething Tablets, Aquaphor, Saline Spray, Nasal Aspirator, baby nail files, one of those diaper poop bag holders for the diaper bag, cloth diapers for burp cloths etcetera. I get it at Target and always get a gift receipt just in case they already have the stuff. I always get a million thank yous about 2-3 weeks after the baby is born because something in the bag saved them a trip to the store.

The clouds and stars crib sheet system was the best thing I got. So quick an easy which comes in handy when the baby wets through during the middle of the night which hasn't happened much but when it does... these are a life saver! Also loved pre-made meals. My mom made me pre-portioned zip lock bags of spaghetti and meatballs and bags of meals that were crocpot ready.
