Best gifts for your one year old
I have a LOT of one year old birthday parties to go to, along with my own DD turning one. What can I get her friends, and what can I suggest people get her?
What does/did your 1 year old love??

I know my DD is REALLY into books, she has a million toys but always goes for the books first. they have to be the board books tho, otherwise she rips the pages out.

A box!!!
DS loved to bounce and was upset when he outgrew his exersaucer - we got him the bouncy horse that goes along w/ the tv. He doesn't get the TV part yet (18 mos) but he does like to bounce. There is a cheaper Zebra that doesn't interface w/ the tv that might have been a better choice.
He loves trucks, megablocks, tools, books, hangers (  ). Depending on season/gender - kitchen, play house type stuff.
He LOVES to sit on the little tyke chair/table at school - makes him feel like a big boy I guess.
Anything with doors/flaps that he can open/close.

My mother got my nephew last year for his 1st, a little couch. It flips open into a bed. Anyway, out of all his gifts, this was his favorite. Even now at 2 years old, my sister has to take the couch with them everywhere for him!

Just having had a 1st b-day for my DS, I feel like an expert!
BeeBop Band by Parents (AWESOME gift)
Books
Puzzles (w/ pegs so it's easier for them to grab)
Little People Farm/Building Sets (they are like giant leggos)
Plus, give the gift receipt!!! It's makes things sooo much easier!
ETA: I also told people who asked for his size, what his weight/length were instead. It's easier to shop for clothes that way.

The last one year old birthday party I went to I bought books.
After seeing the slew of toys my nephew gets, and how few he truly plays with...I figured children's books were something the child could grow with.

Since having DD, my standard first birthday gift is a GC to Stride Rite. They are usually starting to walk around then and shoes can be soooo expensive. I usually also give a tiny something to play with too.

Jacen LOVES his little tikes car (you know the flintstone one), he loves the ball popper and he loves his police car that moves on it's own when you shake it.

the best gifts Aly got for her 1st bday was a small ball pit, a ride on toy, and v tech and leap frog learning toys.
