Soapstone is my dream countertop
me, too! Well actually marble and then soapstone. Is it $$$?
It is a little more expensive but it's lower maintenance and more durable. It's also easier to DIY install so you can save on install costs

Soapstone is my dream countertop
I agree, love the look of it! I do think I read something about it that was a drawback but I can't remember what it was now . . .
It can be harder to get larger pieces, so sometimes there are seams.
It is also expensive, but similar to granite (from what I've read.)
It doesn't need to be sealed, but needs to be oiled if you want that darker smoother look.
I think my dream kitchen would have soapstone counters with a butcher block island, but I in reality I have a tiny apartment kitchen with off-white 80s Formica.
I have soapstone and I love it. I dealt with a person that specialized in soapstone, but he was from NJ. There are were no real experts in soapstone when I was looking on LI and the slabs were limited and not the right color. The only con with it is that it can scratch, but if you oil the scratch u can't really notice it anymore. also the scratches add to the look in my opinion. I have only oiled my counters twice in 4 years and they look great.
In our vacation home we have a quartz that is made to look like carrara marble and I love it!
