Best medicine for DD cough/cold?
So DD has a cold for the first time ever at 17 months. Can't complain I guess. She has a runny nose, dry cough and occasional sneezing. She's also not sleeping very well and getting about 5 teeth or so. I've been giving motrin b/c of the teething but I want to help her out with the runny nose and cough. Before I go stand in the medicine aisle for 20 minutes trying to figure out which medicine is best, any suggestions?

Re: Best medicine for DD cough/cold?
It's really not recommended to use cough/cold medicine under the age of 2. Best thing to do for her is saline spray, nasal aspirator, and humidifier when she's sleeping. Vicks also makes a vapor rub that's safe for over 3 months. Hope she feels better soon!

Oh really? I hadn't heard that before. Do you know the reasoning?

They aren't effective in young children and according to the AAP, can have dangerous side effects.

Re: Best medicine for DD cough/cold?
Thanks guys! I looked into it myself and decided to get a humidifier for the room and just let the cold run its course. Hopefully it passes soon, hate seeing her like this.

Now I just read in Parenting magazine that you shouldn't give any medication for a cold (other than Advil &Tylenol) until 6 yrs old!
