Re: Best Sunscreen for Babies????
I'm on the quest too. Especially after reading that skindeep link. I was using Water Babies last year, but it's loaded with a bunch of toxins. It seems like the less toxic stuff is really hard to rub in from the reviews I've read online. So hopefully someone has a good one that rubs in well, is waterproof and works!

Re: Best Sunscreen for Babies????
I second the above post. You should look for ones with low toxins. They should use a physical barrier like zinc oxide rather than the chemical barriers.
We like the California Baby brand.

We used the Earth's Best one last year and liked it, but wanted to try California Baby's this year. We've used it a few times, and it's good. Just like the Earth's Best, the California Baby one is super thick, so it's a bit tough to rub in, but worth it for the safety of it being natural.

See now that one has a rating of 7 out of 10, with 10 being the worst

Re: Best Sunscreen for Babies????
The Neutrogena Pure and Free Baby Sunblock has active ingredients of Titanium Dioxide and zinc oxide only. There are no other active chemicals.
I physically couldn't bring myself to by $20 sunblock from California Baby. Yes, I know it is the skin of my baby, but It was $20 for a tiny bottle.
I compared California Baby at 30 spf, to Neutrogena at 60 spf. I went with Neutrogena.

Re: Best Sunscreen for Babies????
Thanks for posting the link to the Neutrogena bottle. The California Baby is expensive and I'm always looking for a safe, less expensive alternative.
I was just looking up the ingredients. While this particular one is not rated on the Skin Deep site, I looked up the ingredients in the Neutrogena and many of them are toxic chemical ingredients. It is not as bad as some other brands, but I will continue to use California Baby.

Can you tell me which ones of the chemical ingredients were toxic? I just looked some up, but didn't look them all up. (Sincerely want to know) Thanks!

Re: Best Sunscreen for Babies????
FYI, I ordered the California Baby from diapers.com and it's $2 off now, I think.
Just saw it in BRU for $19.99, if you had a BRU coupon that could help too.

Here was a few things I found with Neutrogena, there are more chemicals than I listed but you can see what I mean with these examples.
1. Environmental Working Group says that overall Neutrogena sunscreen is not safe: Link to sunscreen guide (see the bullet points under AVOID)
2. Tocopheryl Acetate - which says "toxic to human skin with strong evidence"
3. Alumina - "strong evidence in human neurotoxicity", "moderate evidence of human nervous system toxicant," Tumor formation, etc.
4. Acrylates Copolymer
5. BHT - "Known Human Immune System toxicant," "Human Skin Toxicant - strong evidence," "endocrine system disruption," "brain and nervous system effects," etc.
ETA: link didn't work above, trying again: Link to sunscreen guide (see Neutrogena under brands to avoid)
