hi everyone,
my cousin is pregnant and she is concerned about her beta numbes. Should she be concerned? she is concerned with the 2 and 3 numbers how they didnt double....
will she have a m/c?
Here are her numbers
Oct 17- Beta # 86
Oct 19 -Beta # 144
Oct 26- first sono beta 619
also took first sono and sac was very small 2mm.
Should she be prepared for a bad pregnancy. Doc told her doesn/t look good
if so what is next, she is 5w6d....

Re: beta number didnt double
i'm confused.... betas should double every 48-72 hours, and even that can vary. why is there a concern with her numbers? looks like they're doubling fine to me...

Re: beta number didnt double
I agree with pp. They are more than doubling. Is it the size of the sac that is the issue?? Does she know her progesterone numbers??

Re: beta number didnt double
First, hugs to your cousin. I have been on both ends of non-doubling beta stress, and it is not fun. During my last pregnancy in April, my #s stopped doubling between my second and third betas and never picked up. I never developed more than a small sac, and the pregnancy was not viable.
Currently, I am 7 weeks PG after having a beta that didn't rise normally between betas 2, 3, & 4, but then shot up. I was sure it would be another m/c, but I have now seen and heard the hb!
Unfortunately, the only way to really know what's going on is for your cousin to have another sono soon to see if there has been any significant growth. Best of luck to her.

Re: beta number didnt double
Thank you for all of you guys for responding. Her beta number when up with her first and second. The doc said it didnt go up with the second and third. If you look at the 2 & 3 date they are 7 days and didnt double. It should of been in the 1000. DOc said doesn't look like a good pregnancy at all and very slim it will be ok. The doc normally doesn't take a 3 beta but since the sac was 2mm she wanted to make sure the pregnancy was ok. She was so upset.
Jax were your numbers similiar to hers? Also, was the sac small?
thank you

Re: beta number didnt double
If the numbers aren't doubling every 48 hours it can mean that a miscarriage may occur. They should retest her blood again.

Re: beta number didnt double
I think the only way to tell unfortunately is for her to wait and repeat the blood tests and sonogram in a few days. hope everything works out for your cousin.

I had to look back at my IUI journal on the Infertility board, b/c I forgot the numbers. Beta #1 was 130, #2 was 270, #3 (4 days later) was 450, and then they just kept rising very slowly for two weeks until they hit about 1300.
I don't know what the size of my sac was. I went for the first one at about 5.5 weeks and there was a sac, and then it was the same size sac at 6.5 weeks.
I hope that your cousin doesn't have the same outcome, but it does sound possible that it won't be viable.
This time around, I did IVF, so we think the reason my numbers slowed down and then picked up is that two embryos originally implanted and then one twin "vanished." I'm still really nervous though, even though we saw and heart the heartbeat!
