Beta tomorrow-update
Hi ladies,
I have my beta tomorrow (4th IUI). I don't think I'm pregnant but we will see what happens tomorrow. Anyways if I'm not I'm probably moving onto IVF. So if I get my period this week, when do they start me on BCP? What are the first steps of IVF? When do the shots start? When will they start the meds? Please any advice would be great. I'm still nervous about this whole process but I'm realizing that I might have a better chance of getting our baby from IVF and not an IUI.
Thank you!
Update-well I just got the phone call I'm not pregnant. So I'm going to stop the endrometrin and wait for my AF to get here. onto IVF ladies. I hope to make a lot of friends here. You all are so supportive and I'm sure it's going to be a long process and I mm sure I will have lots of questions. Thank you all for your support!

Re: Beta tomorrow
Good luck! I just did IVF, had my transfer on Saturday. Honestly it's really not bad at all. My last two IUIs were injectable cycles so I was already used to doing the shots on myself. For most of the ivf cycle, it was only two shots a day, so just one more than I was used to. The difference was the size in needle btwn the Follistim pen and the needle for the menopur. At first you're thinking, oh heck no, I can't do that but once it pierces the skin it didn't matter how far in it needed to go, didn't feel any different. My guess is you won't be able to start as soon as you get your period, you'll have to wait until at least your next cycle. You may need a water sono or other things that your RE wants done before. Also they need to order all the meds for you. The shots started on day 3, so right away which is why you won't be able to just start ivf right away. I also had paperwork that needed to be filled out before I could start. I would honestly have no problem doing another round of IVF if I had insurance that covered it. The most stressful part for me was counting the follicles and worrying about the amount of them, but I had the same stress during my IUI cycles too so it wasn't an IVF stress, it was an infertility stress that I went through every cycle. The only shot that did suck was the progesterone but I was only on that for three days. Good luck!!

Re: Beta tomorrow
have you done any other tests and working with an RE already? b/c when I first started I had to have an HSG, hysteroscopy etc. to rule out issues.
once I started the IVF cycle, I did birth control for 2 weeks starting on day 3 of my cycle. Then I did the injections. I had two different protocols for my two cycles. the first one i did menopur injection in the am, and follistim pen at nite for about 11 days; I added in ganirelex towards the end so it was 3 shots a day for the last 4 days. Then trigger shot. 36 hrs later was retrieval.
2nd cycle I was on lupron microdose so I did 4 shots a day. Lupron microdose with menopur in the am, lupron microdose with follistim in the pm. No ganirelix this time. trigger then retrieval. I think I did 12 days of injections so that a lot of shots. but you get used it.
I felt tired a lot from the meds. and the every other day visits to the RMA were intense with going after school am drop off and on my way to work. but its only for short time.

Re: Beta tomorrow
Good luck! Have you tested?? Evey place starts out different. Cycle 1 I started BCP CD1 for 3 full weeks. Cycle 2 I started BCP on CD 2 and did them for 2 weeks 3 days. ( they always end you on a Sunday).
If you haven't done your HSG yet they will probably make you wait a cycle in between. Also, if you did injectables you may have to wait a cycle in between. If it was just IUI you should be able to move right on through. After the BCP, I started the stims. 2 shots for 7 nights and added a 3rd only in the am for 4 additional days. Then trigger, and 36 hours later retrieval. They will likely change your dosages throughout the injection part of the cycle.

thank you for sharing your story and experiences. Yes I have been working with an RE since October. No issues on my end. They just did an HSG last month and found that my tubes with excellent. No blockage at all. My husband has male fertility issues or so we are told. Some months he produces 9-10 million after the wash and 60-80 percent motility. And some months it's only 5 million with 60 percent motility. Whatever the case I'm not getting pregnant with IUIs, so that's why I'm considering moving forward to IVF.

Thank you for sharing! Yes I did the HSG last month they found no blockage or anything which is great! And my IUIs have just been on clomid for the last two, I haven't had any injectables other than the trigger shot of ovidrel.

Beta tomorrow-update
I'm so sorry. IUIs didn't work for me either. IVF eventually did. Before proceeding ask for additional tests so everything is treated during IVF. Best of luck!

Clomid never worked for me. Injectables did...twice. I'd try injectables before doing IVF.

I agree. I asked my doctor and he said no because on clomid I did respond very well producing three mature eggs each cycle. My husband has poor fertility, so the doctor said injectables won't work because it will only help me produce more eggs which I don't have a problem doing, he think IVF will help me get a Baby.

Re: Beta tomorrow-update
Sorry it didn't work out this month.
As far as IVF, your clinic may have you enroll in a class for a few hours to go over the process. Not everyone's protocol is the same. Some girls get put on BCP, some BCP + Lupron, some don't use BCP. Cornell had me enroll in a class to go over IVF basics. After the class each girl sat down with her nurse 1 on 1 to discuss her specific protocol and her potential calendar.
These are my answers based on my experience.
So if I get my period this week, when do they start me on BCP? I started BCP around day 3-4 of my cycle. I was on them for 21 days. I think it's best to enroll in the class first, then do the BCP next cycle. You want to have the injectable meds by time you finish BCP. If you are paying OOP, then getting the meds should only take a few days. If you need insurance pre-approval and all that, it may take longer.
What are the first steps of IVF? When do the shots start? When will they start the meds? For me, I had to go to my RE on day 2 of my cycle. Typically, the shots start on day 2 and last around 10 days. I had a cyst so I wasn't able to start the injections until day 5.
HTH!

Re: Beta tomorrow-update
I'm sorry your last IUI didn't work and you have to move onto IVF. I do think you're right that with a male factor, IVF gives you the best shot of getting pregnant. The fact that you ovulate and responded well to the clomid is a great sign!
