BF and pumping
BF moms I was wondering when you find the time to pump. I feel so drained after her feeding. I read how some of you get 8 oz - how do you do that?
TIA

Re: BF and pumping
Unless you have an abundance of milk I don't think you would get 8oz in the beginning. I generally pump at the end of a feeding or in between if she goes for a long stretch. If you don't need the milk on hand for bottles I wouldn't worry about pumping too much just yet.

Re: BF and pumping
You read my mind- I was wondering this today as well. After I feed her in the morning I try to jump in the shower fast & get a little breakfast. Next thing I know, she's awake again for another feeding (yes, my daughter is eating every 1-2 hours most of the day! ). How are we supposed to do this??? When I DO have a moment to pump, I am only getting like 1oz after 15 minutes of pumping! The most I've gotten is a touch over 2oz. This BF thing is seriously one of the most frustrating things I've ever dealt with.

I wouldn't expect you to get very much right after a feeding, not more than an ounce or two. They will taper off and get to maybe every 2-3 hours so you can try pumping between feedings when that happens. Your body will catch up also and produce more milk if you pump after the feedings and empty yourself, at least that's my understanding. Give it time it will all catch up and even out.

Re: BF and pumping
Pumping is just not easy..not because of the actual pumping but because you are sitting at the pump for 20 minutes. Getting 8oz after a full feeding is not the norm for most moms. There really is no way to know how much you will pump until you start doing it and give your body time to adjust to the pumping action. It is different than the nursing action. When you do pump your body will think "hum...the baby needs more" and it will start to make more, but it does take more than a day for that to happen.

Re: BF and pumping
I try to pump in the morning after her feeding. Brianna only feeds from one breast right now maybe on the otherside if shes really hungry. I get about 2-3 oz sometimes a little more. I am only tryingto feed her the bottle right now because I am so afraid of the nipple confusion. (Im such a worry wart) My DH is giving her one right now as we speak.. its goin well I think
