BF moms--are you giving vitamins?
Our ped. told us that BM is extremely healthy, but does not contain enough Vitamin D. She told us to start using Tri Vi Sol.
So far so good, DD even seems to like it, but I had never heard this before. Anyone else using it? DD seems so young for vitamins...

DS was prescribed vitamins at 6 months.

Our ped gave us a script at I *think* 6 months. I didn't fill it for a while, then I filled it and still don't give it to her. Not for any real reason other than vitamins are not part of my personal daily routine, so I don't make them part of hers.

Jen, are you giving her a full dropper? We've been giving it to her straight before she feeds, and the full mL seems like so much. We're giving her .5 so far...

Dr said the same but DS hated it and it made him spit up more. So we skipped it.

DS hated when I gave him a dropper full of it. I started putting it in a bottle of BM so he'd be more willing to take it. I haven't given him a bottle in a while though and have been bad about giving him the vitamins recently.

I only partially BF... I was told to also give the tri vi sol.... But honestly, I think if I gave the whole ml, I would be giving too much, becuase DS drinks a lot of formula.... so I give maybe .5 ml every other day or so....
I hate the smell of that stuff  awful cherry nastiness

Yes we were told to start giving him Tri Vi Sol at our 2 week apt. My DS took it with no problem. But now that he is both BF & FF I have not been giving it to him everyday, because the formula has the vitamins that are missing from the BM.

DS was BF until 6 1/2 months & the Dr. knows he was supplemented with formula before he went fully on formula.
At his 7 month visit no vitamins were recommended then either.

Yes BFing is very healthy - but they do recommend you give vitamins for extra vitamin D when you BF.

DD's pediatrician gave us a script at her 6month visit I have not filled it yet but he also said don't give it to her with her formula

I gave it when I remembered which wasn't very often . As long as the baby is exposed to some sunlight it will have enough vit d.

I was surprised too that they told me to give vitamins when DD was receiving exclusively BM. But I researched it and vitamin D doesn't pass into BM that well so it needs to be supplemented. Formula has enough in it so the vitamins aren't needed for formula babies. I also gave TriViSol starting at 3 months I think. She loved them!

Our ped also recommended Tri Vi Sol right from the start. I always just gave them to her from the dropper mid nursing or before. I still give DD these vitamins and she LOVES them!
