BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies) Small Update
I have been BF my son for 6 1/2 months. He hasn't had anything but my breast, (no bottles)
I started to introduce cereal this week and he would cry and rub his face. He won't let me near his mouth. Then I tried to see if he would eat Sweet Potato, he won't eat that either.
The only new thing he likes is the sippy cup with water.
Has anyone gone threw this same situation, where you BF your baby for 6 months+?
Please tell me what worked for you, I don't want to try feeding him while he is crying, then I feel he'll hate eating because he'll associate crying with it.
Thanks
ETA: Also, My Pediatrician said since I haven't pumped before to just use Formula with the cereal. So I thought maybe he hates the formula that's why I tried the sweet potato, but he hates that too.

Do you give him breastmilk first? Or do you try to feed him the food when he's hungry?

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
DS has created his own feeding schedule, so I tried to feed him the new stuff first around his feeding time, then go to BM.
I even tried it in between feedings where he is not super hungry but would take a few minutes of BM and tried the cereal at that time and he hated it.
Are you suggesting I should try BM first then stop him and try the cereal again?

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
mine was the worst eater. still kind of is, its a hit or a miss every meal.
don't stress it, I did. So much effort went into me trying to give my baby 3 meals a day.
Just keep offering it. Mine always gained weight, so we never worried.
also, I was always able to just squeeze some BM into a bowl and mix the cereal in. Since your baby isn't eating anyway, you really only need a small amount each day to offer it.

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
sometimes mine was so frustrated that I did not bf him first thing in the morning, that the whole meal would wind up terrible anyway.
I BF first thing in the morning, then an hour later offer food.
At 7-8 months, he fell in love with peas and strawberries. So, I put that on his tray everyday.
At 6 months, whenever he would open his mouth to put his sippy cup in, I would ram cereal into his mouth to get him to atleast try it. same with cheerios...I would go to stick it in his mouth, then throw cereal in there. It drove me crazy that he wasn't even trying things.
I swear, a jar of apples could last me 3 days.

Try bananas -- babies usually like those. Otherwise, don't sweat it. Offer food casually and eventually he'll start to eat it. Right now he's getting all he needs with the breast milk anyway.

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
Since you're not using BM (which is VERY sweet) in the cereal, try mixing it with water and a fruit (bananas is sweetest I think).
Also, nurse him a little bit before giving solids. If he's starving, he'll grow frustrated more quickly. I find that about an hour after nursing DD is more apt to eat a whole meal.
Don't worry~ most babies resist at first I think. DD still gives me a hard time sometimes and we've been at it for almost 2 months!!!!

It is amazing how "set in their ways" they are so young, huh?
Just keep trying and remember, he won't be nursing when he goes to college!

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
I use water for her cereal and have tried with formula and she refuses to eat it. I will then make it the way she likes and the same thing until I try a few hours later and no problems. He just might not like the formula.

Re: BF Moms HELP (DS won't eat cereal or vegies)
I decided to try to give him the sweet potatoes again after his 1.5 hour nap and he ate it
I had the sippy cup with water on the tray which he was grabbing for... so I gave him a spoon of SP and then gave him some water to drink. Each time he let go of the cup and I put it out of reach he would go to grab it with his mouth open and I would put the spoon of SP in
It's a start...
