BF Moms Weaning question
DD is over a year and I would like to start weaning her gradually...
A few questions..
1) if I just cut back one feeding a day for now, how much milk should I be giving her in her sippy cup? She has never had a bottle so I dont know how much milk per feeding that she has ever had or would need.
2) Is it easier to just cut back on all day feedings and just keep the morning and evening feed for now? That way I can concentrate on making sure she drinks enough milk from a sippy cup during the day. I Am afraid if I just cut out one feeding that I will forget to substitute it with milk.
3) What do I do if I get engorged? I was engorged last night as DD didnt feed very well yesterday as we were out all day. She was sleeping with us and in the middle of the night she started feeding and to be honest I was glad she did as it gave my boobs some relief!! but this is wrong right? If she keeps feeding they will keep producing...
4) What % of babies actually self wean? have any of your babies done that? I would rather this would happen but to be honest my DD is such a sucker I am afraid she will still want to BF when she is 5/6!!
5) Are there any good books that I could read?
6) do I need to contact an LC or can I just do this myself?
Sorry for all the questions but I am really confused about all this.
TIA

Re: BF Moms Weaning question
I weaned at 4 months, it a little bit a difference to an older baby.
I only cut back one feeding a day, and did that for a couple days, I did it for me than for DD, i was too uncomfy to do it any other way.
I left the last feedings-the morning, and last night feeding for last.
I got alot of help about weaning from www.kellymom.com
I know i saw/read alot of info on older baby weaning on that website and the internet.
Good lucK!

Re: BF Moms Weaning question
I don't have too much advice because I weaned DD at 3 months (I now wish I had done it a bit longer) but I just wanted to wish you luck. DD was tough to wean at that age and I had to start off slow by pumping and adding 1 oz a week to her bottles. If you get engorged, just pump what you need to relieve yourself and no more.

Re: BF Moms Weaning question
Damien self weaned completely at 22 months. When he was a year old I cut him back to BF just at night, and I would do it once a day on the weekends. I gave him milk cups 3 to 4 times a day. I also added drinkable yogurt to his cups because BM is so sweet it was the only way he would drink milk. It wasn't that hard at all.
