BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I have lost about half of the weight I gained while pregnant, just from I guess not being pregnant anymore.
I am wondering when this breastfeeding affecting weight loss is going to kick in.
I know I haven't exercised since I cannot find the time, but I thought this weight was supposed to melt off of me!! I plan to start exercising once I can find a way to work it in.
Am I just not patient enough?? I am 5 weeks PP.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I have to be honest, with my first, I still had 10 pounds on me at 7 months PP (when I got pg again). This time around, I lost all the weight I gained with #2 by 3 months PP (but I'm still working on that extra 10 from #1).

The bfing helps your uterus contract - it doesn't necessarily help you lose weight.
My gyn told me that I'd probably drop another 5-10 lbs after I stopped BFing. That was true for me.

I think everyones body is different. At 3.5 weeks pp I am 15 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight but I only gained 12 lbs and was overweight to begin with.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I know you don't want to hear this from me! But I gained only 13lbs during my pregnancy, but that's probably because I was on a strict diet due to my GD. 2 weeks post partum I was down 23lbs and fitting into my pre-pregnancy pants. I'm currently down 30lbs. I'm lighter than I was pre-pregnancy, but I had also gained alot of weight prior to getting pregnant due to all the fertility drugs.
I haven't really been doing anything special though, but I am anxious to keep the weight off and lose some more once I get the go ahead to excercise.

i thought it burned a ton of calories on top of the uterus thing

True, but you're usually eating more b/c you're burning more calories. I find I still eat almost as much as I did when I was PG.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I am 12 lbs. below my pre-pregnancy weight, but I only gained 16 lbs. during the pregnancy.
I know we are supposed to be eating more, but I am lucky I find time for 3 meals with DS always wanting to be held and feeding every 2-3 hours, so I haven't been eating too much more.

I lost all of my baby weight plus another 22 lbs. within 10 days of delivering. But I was plus-sized to begin with.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I lost most of it by 6 wks pp. But its when I started getting out of the house it all came off. Now at 1o wks pp I can fit into pretty much all my clothes. My body is different now, but the weight is gone.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I gained 45 lbs during pregnancy. I was 5 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight at 6 weeks pp and I lost the rest over the next few weeks. My body is definitely different though.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
7 months until I looked anywhere near myself again - but still had baby weight.
I could say I officially comfortably slithered into pre-preggo jeans 18 mts post partum. Sure, I huffed and puffed and bleeeeew the house in to get my jeans on by his 1st bday, but I had to wear a long shirt to cover up the globs of fat that fell over the side like uncooked dough.
LOTS of working out. The only thing that worked for me.
ETA - I would forget to eat too. I am not a big eater, but the weight just didn't budge no matter what I did!!!!

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
Overweight to begin with. Gained 53 lbs, lost 23 at end of hospital week. within 3 weeks lost that all plus another 25. I am somewhat stalled now-not gaining not losing. I think BF'ing affects everyone differently.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
i actually gained weight from breastfeeding!
total pg gain by the time i gave birth was 22 pounds.
lost 17 in the first 2 weeks, had 5 to go...
and then GAINED 7 while BFing!
lost all but 4 after i stopped BFing and was on my way to losing all of it... and then i got pg again.
so i am running 4lbs heavier now than i was in my last pg...
i think BFing affects everyone differently... for every person who loses a ton, there is a person who can't lose those last lbs until they stop...

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I gained close to 50lbs by the end but by 6 months PP I was back into jeans. By about 9 months I weighed less than pre-preggo. I only recently started to go to the gym.
BF requires you to consume 500 extra calories a day, which isn't that much when many eat more than they are recommended anyway. After giving birth I found I was still eatting a lot, like as if I was still preggo. I found that when I cut back on what I was eatting to more healthier choices/portions and less boredom eatting and try to get out a walk a little more, the weight started to come off.

I think it really depends on your body type. BFing burns more calories, but if you body NEEDS those calories to produce milk, then it's going to hold onto that weight. If I recall- you were very thin before? It might be that your body NEEDS the extra weight to produce a good supply.
That said, you are only 5 weeks PP and your supply is still regulating- maybe the upcoming weeks you'll see more change on the scale.

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I was thin before both kids and I totally think BFing helped lose the weight quickly
DD#1(gained 24lbs while p/g) baby weighed 7lbs 12oz(3 weeks early) The day I got BFP 117lbs 6 week c/s check 120lbs 3 months PP 104lbs 2 years later 116lbs I had bad PPD though
DD#2(gained 32lbs while p/g) baby weighed 9lbs 3 oz(2 weeks early) The day I got BFP 116lbs 6 week c/s 122lbs now(10 months pp)108-110lbs

I really belive that if you were thin before pregnancy, your body holds on to the weight when you are breast feeding. It took me nine months to get off all the weight with my DD and I am sure this time it will be the same. It was only when I weaned her that I lost the last ten

Re: BF Moms.. when did the weight start to come off?
I do think BFing helps. With DS I lost all the weight right away (I was also very young).
I don't even have a scale to be honest and won't step on one until my clothes start fitting again. But I could estimate that I've lost about half the weight at 3 and 1/2 weeks pp. I am also bFing, and think if I wasn't the loss would be slower. I could definitely feel my uterus contract (especially in the beginning) when dd nurses.
