Here is what I go by, from Kellymom.com
when in doubt i taste a little, to make sure it's not bad, and no milk that is still good gets wasted

I generally use the five day rule too - and smell it if I stretch past that

I would say it's safe to use a bottle you pumped on Wednesday. I generally go by 4 days and I freeze what I haven't used.

Smell it- you'll know if it's bad or even turning.

Re: BF moms...how long is BM good in fridge??
I agree with smelling it... the "rules" did not apply to me as my milk went bad in the freezer and in the fridge after 48 hours. I threw out over 300 oz of frozen BM.

I NEVER EVER went by the "smell" of BM. It always smelled bad to me the moment I pumped it. I went by my ped's rule which was NEVER EVER throw out BM. DD is a happy healthy 2 year old, that drank BM that was defrosted after 6 months in a reg fridge, kept in the fridge for 2 weeks at a time, or defrosted more than 24 hours.
I looked at it this way . . . organic milk has an expiration date two months away, but "regular" milk has an expiration date 2 weeks away. BM is all natural, so why should I throw it out quicker than organic cow's milk??

I think there is a definite difference b/t good breast milk and bad breast milk.
I discovered that mine went bad since I smelled it and when it didn't smell right, I tasted it and it was VILE. And I had tasted fresh milk, or day old milk which tasted nothing like the bad milk. It was so bad that I HAD to get the taste out of my mouth immediately and I just dipped a finger tip in a drop of it. I knew something was wrong, nor would I give a whole bottle of it to Sasha.
Most people do not have an issue with their milk storage, but there are plenty of people that do-- It is important to check your milk to make sure it's still good, as the guidelines out there are general and may not apply to everyone's milk.
I completely recommend checking your milk before you start building a freezer stash-- I wish I had tested my milk sooner. I spent a lot of time pumping and storing-- and taking up freezer space!

I freeze anything 3 days old and only use refrigerated milk within this time period.

This is interesting! I have to check. I did bring a bottle of frozen milk to the stores the other day and when I went to give it to Santino iand t smelled bad. I didnt give it to him bc I was weary but thought this was do to being out a couple of hours at the store

I think my frozen milk smells kind of gross, but it tastes ok and DS has never had an issue with it.

freezing milk can cause the milk to have a soapy smell which DOES NOT mean it has gone bad... it is just the result of freezing.....
