BF Support/Advice
DD is almost 4 months old and has never been a great sleeper (at most one 5 hour stretch at night). Now, for the last 3 weeks, she is up every 3 hours at night, sometimes less. She doesn't seem very interested in feedings during the day, but nurses for 30-45 minutes each session at night.
During the day, she is very happy and smiley between naps.
I'm completely exhausted and think my supply is not adequate for her. I feed her 7-8 times a day for 20-45 minutes. I really don't want to give up BF, but can't figure out what will help her sleep longer at night?
Any suggestions/advice? I know I am rambling, but I couldn't BF my first DS, so I'd be really upset to give up BF DD so early.

Re: BF Support/Advice
I have a 3-month old and I was recently reading about sleep patterns and schedules. Apparently, it's very common at 4 months to have "sleep regression." If you just google 4 month sleep regression, you'll get a lot of info.
Just wanted to throw out that it may not be related to BFing at all. I'm exclusively BFing too and yeah, it's hard! Hang in there and you're doing great.

Re: BF Support/Advice
You might try a "dream feed" right before you go to bed. Just put sleeping baby to the breast and baby will usually take a feeding while staying asleep. That might help to tank her up so she can go a little longer and you can get more sleep.

Thanks for posting this. I looked this up and I'm a little more hopeful that it is not related to BF. I'm going to stick it out longer and hope it gets better!

Re: BF Support/Advice
Baby should not be eating for 45 minutes. It sounds like DC is using you as a pacifier. Many babies need to suck for comfort, but that is not the same as suckling for nurishment. Sounds like your DD is doing the former when she is done eating.

Re: BF Support/Advice
I agree, at 4 months you should not be nursing that long. Does your DC take a paci? Also, can you pump a bottle to give before bed? Sometimes supply is down in the evening - I found it helped to give an additional pumped bottle before bedtime so I knew he got a certain amt before bed.

Maybe it's a growth spurt. It should pass.

Re: BF Support/Advice
DD will not take a pacifier. We have tried since birth and she has never been interested. I'm hoping it's a growth spurt or just a phase.
