BF'ing Moms- I am pumping VERY LITTLE

I am trying to pump and not even 1/2 oz is coming out. Does this happen to anyone else?
So far the baby has been content with BF'ing and supplementing very little formula (like every other day)

Maybe I stopped producing????

How old is she? In the very beginning I wasn't able to pump a lot. It took at least a week or two before I could pump more than 1/2 to 1 oz. Just keep nursing her and your supply will continue to increase. It's all supply and demand. Pumping will also increase your supply. My LC had me pumping every 3 hours in for the first 1-2 weeks to build up my supply because my DS was jaundiced and I also had trouble getting him to latch at first.

Oh, then don't worry about it then! Also, if you're pumping after a feeding she will already have gotten whatever milk you have. But the suction of the pump will stimulate your body to start to produce more milk. Give it a little time and I'm sure you'll start getting more.

Not being able to pump a ton of milk in the beginning doesn't mean you stopped producing. Don't worry about it

If he seems content after nursing, then you are fine. Your body adjusts itself to the demand and his demand is a very little quantity right now.

Edited for spelling.

Don't worry its still early to pump a lot. If your baby is having good output (wet diapers) hes getting enough. Remember you never pump as much as the baby sucks. The best time to pump for me was in the morning right after my DS ate. Good luck keep at it, I can now pump average 8 -12 oz in 8 minutes every time I pump.

I wouldn't be too concerned. It takes a while to build up to a good milk production. I'm sure the baby is getting enough but you may not see the results in pumping for a while. Also some women's bodies don't respond to pumping at all. Hang in there! Chat Icon
