BFing moms: questions re: supply

I'm coming down with something and I'm pretty sure it's affecting my supply. Chat Icon I usually pump between 5 and 8 oz after the first morning feeding, but I only got 3 oz today. I'm worried, especially since I'm going back to work next week and my supply will probably be affected again b/c I'll be pumping during the day instead of BFing.

If you've been sick, have you noticed a dip in your supply? Did it return to normal after you got better?

I'm trying to drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. Is there anything else I should do to maintain/build my supply?

It could be from that. Also is your DC having a growth spurt and maybe drank more?
Do you have your period back? You can have dip in supply during AF.
Being sick can hurt your supply but keep nursing/pumping and you'll get it right back.

Since you're going back to work you can try using More Milk Plus that might help you not have a dip when you're just pumping.

Thanks. I don't think he's having a growth spurt although he woke more frequently last night to nurse. I pumped twice the amount yesterday morning so it was upsetting to see my supply dip so much.

I haven't gotten AF yet Chat Icon, but thank you for letting me know what to expect when it comes back. Chat Icon

That alone will cause you to have a lower amount for that particular session.

Eliza had been sleeping through the night for the past 10 days. My morning pumping sessions were giving me about 8 ounces per breast (I know- can you say, "Moo"?). 2 nights ago, she woke up 2x to eat. That next morning I got 3 ounces per breast. She slept through the night the next night and I got 10 ounces per breast the next morning (ouch).

Sounds like your supply is just fine!Chat Icon

I def. got a lot less if Ryan was up more than usual at night (even when he was closer to a year and he'd wake at night when he wasn't feeling well). And not feeling well can affect it. It should go back up in a few days. Try eating more oatmeal/drinking more water.
