BH Contractions or the start of something real?
I was experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions last weekend. I wasn’t sure if it was early labor so when I went to the dr. on Tuesday I talked to him about it and confirmed that unless I am in real labor, any other contractions are considered Braxton Hicks. I didn’t feel anything until today. Now, I am feeling a lot of pressure, some slight period-like cramps here and there, sharp shooting pains down low, some pain in my back, and the sensation that I have to go #2 really bad. Is this more of the BH contractions? How do I know if I am starting early labor? I work over an hour away from the hospital, so I am a little anxious….can you tell?
I am 39 weeks today.

I'd call the Dr. The strong sensation to go #2 is what makes it seem different from BH to me.
Good luck!

I don't have pain, pressure, or the urge to go #2 with my BH. Sounds like the start of something!! Although they will probably tell you to wait until they are regular and frequent to come in so I wouldn't worry about the hospital drive just yet Just start timing them now!!

At my childbirth class last night, the symptoms that you mentioned were the same ones depicting the beginning of early labor!!

I suppose that I was thinking labor would be more painful/uncomfortable than this. I am not really in "pain", per say. More just feeling stuff here and there. Nothing that is worth timing. I have been getting nauseous and my temp keeps fluctuating so I feel like I am on fire every once in a while. How do I know I am in early labor?? Errgg!! I thought I had this all figured out when I took the birthing class. Now I’m confused about what my body is telling me.

wait until you have the sensation that you think you can time...
Since you're unsure and it IS business hours at your OB's office, I'd give the nurse a call. I'm sure he/she can tell you the likelyhood of this being early labor..
good luck!!!!

Even though they are not worth timing, I would start writing down a chart anyway. I kept a notebook next to me & it helped.
I was in "soft labor" for 3 days before I went into hard labor. I did not even know! I had a previa so I felt everything very high, and to me it felt almost like heart palpatations. When the Dr hooked me up to the machine he asked me to hit a button when I felt the flutters. They timed perfectly with my contractions on the monitor.

Re: BH Contractions or the start of something real?
I had so many BH the week leading up to labor, that I didn't recognize labor right away. What I found was that the contractions were so intense that I couldn't sleep through them. I tried getting in the shower and that didn't make them go away ("false labor" will subside in the shower).
Then, at the risk of TMI, my body totally starting emptying itself -- so the #2 feeling is a good sign that you are either in labor or near labor. If you find yourself running to the toilet -- I think that's a good sign.

Re: BH Contractions or the start of something real?
I have had the same feeling today too! Period like cramps and some of them were really sharp pains...I had about 4 or 5 within an hour. Every time I felt one I looked at my watch. Last few days I always feel like I have to do #2.

Re: BH Contractions or the start of something real?
Sounds like labor is beginning...when I went into labor with my son, I felt like I had to go to the bathroom every 2-3 minutes...then finally realized that duh, it was contractions!!!

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I've been feeling that sharp stabbing pain in my vajeen a few times per hour. It makes me jump outa my seat. SOME cramping, but nothing that is out of control. Still the feeling that I have to go #2 on and off all day. I have been trying to clock them but I can only really feel when they are starting, not really when they are ending. It's kinda like a constant dull dull pain. My belly is getting hard from time to time.
I will keep you all posted!

I didn't call the dr. He said to call when I feel contractions that are consistent, which I'm not feeling. If things stay the same or progress today then I will call. As of now, things are pretty much the same as they were yesterday.
