Big day yesterday. for both of us
On SUnday morning I tried to put him down for his nap by nursing him and he wasn't having it. I finished taking down the Christmas Decorations and went up to take a shower. When I came back down stairs I found him sound asleep next to my husband on the couch. the bugger just went right down b/c he was tired.
so, yesterday I made him take his nap without me. I put him in his pack and play in the dining room and I sat there and chopped veggies. he fussed, he played, he cried a bit and he tried to "talk" me out of it but I stayed strong, blew him kisses and told him to go to sleep.
I walked into the kitchen (which is visible to my dr in my apt) and when I turned around he was sound asleep. by himself. without me.  I am both elated and devastated.  
then last night after I put him down (can't give that up yet) he woke up twice and PUT HIMSELF BACK TO SLEEP!! I didn't have to leave dh out the couch. I didn't have to let my tea get cold. my big boy did it ON HIS OWN. 
I just really feel like he is changing and ready for this now. I am going to progress slowly, fully expecting some regression and see where it goes. he did wake up during the night, but he's been giving me at least 4-5 hour stretches, which is HUGE if you can believe it.
He must of known it was a "graduation" of sorts yesterday, b/c here is what else he did.

he is dragging his mama kicking and screaming into toddlerhood.
as hard as I tried to hold it...to savor it...to slow it down...he is not the infant I brought home all those months ago.
it's so bittersweet. thanks for reading/looking.

its amazing and heartbraking at the same time. I used to get up with DS during the nite and sleep on the couch with him. It got to the point though where i was crippled from the couch and had enough. So we started letting him do it on his own. Then we did the napping. Now he does it like a champ most days.
they change so much and every day i look at him and im like "where did my little guy go??" Some days I long for when he was so tiny and just wanted to cuddle.
congrats on the haircut

Awwww he is SUPER adorable
I hear ya on the sadness about moving from baby to toddlerhood but let me reassure you that baby boys especially seem to need their mommies and love their hugs and kisses for a long time

Aw congrats mommy! I know it is bittersweet. You give me such hope for Ava, as she gets older. We are in the same boat as you were, she is only 9 months though. I am hoping to have as good an outcome, as you have. Thanks for sharing. Helps me see the light at the end of the tunnel.
