You know what's really scary...at some point prior to 9/11 I was thinking that I was never really affected by anything really big and historical.
Ever wish you could take back a thought?!

Re: Big days in "OUR" History
9/11 was terrible and all three events certainly tested us. While I wish they never happened I always ended up feeling proud to be a New Yorker, and proud of the people I shared the city with. I think we all have a much better sense of how strong we really are.

1993 WTC Bombing on my 25th birthday ... I was working there, three floors above where the van with explosives was parked.

Re: Big days in "OUR" History
OK- I am totally aging myself here, but here are some of my big memories....
I remember the Challenger exploding so well- even though I was a kid. Oh- and Princess Diana's death... And the Gulf war on TV... I also rememember some good stuff- the crumbling of the Berlin Wall Gorbachev and Reagan making peace...

Yes, the Challenger too! I was in HS and had "run away from home" to my aunt's house.

Then I am REALLY old. I was in college when the space shuttle exploded. We were watching it on TV and as we watched, it happened. We were glued to the TV and we all felt numb.
I agree with Mrs. Professor too. I have lived in other parts of the US and I always thought that NYers got a bad rap. I think some of the tough times really do show people outside our area how strong and resilient we are and how much we do care about each other, even if we are normally a bit standoff-ish

Thanks! Yeah- we have seen quite a bit of history.
I will never forget the challenger- my whole class was sitting watching it on TV- and then it exploded and our teacher quickly shut it off. It was such a big deal because they had taken a civilian- a teacher- there.

Me too. I was in 3rd grade - I will never ever forget that. They took us all to the library to watch it take off and then the explosion...
