Big Fire in Connetquot Park
Twenty departments battle Connetquot State Park fire
(04/23/07) OAKDALE – Twenty fire departments have responded to a brush fire at Connetquot State Park in Oakdale.
The fire is burning close to Sycamore Avenue and Church Street. White smoke is covering a large area in and around the park.
Connetquot State Park Preserve maintains 3,473 acres of land and water for the protection of animals. It also has 50 miles of trails for various activities.
The flames broke out around 12:15 p.m.

  we just got home from not too far from there at a nearby playground. we were there all morning. I didnt notice anything..
I hope no one is hurt.

OMG, my horses are stabled a couple blocks from the Islip side of the park. We ride in the park all the time.
 They get it out soon!!!!!!!!

I work on Vets Hwy in Bohemia...I heard lots of sirens while I was on lunch. That's a shame, I hate seeing nature & wildlife being destroyed like that!

How come there's no info on Newsday.com? We can't access News12.com from work w/o an account # for Cablevision since we have DSL (most idiotic thing, IMO!  ) and I wanted to read the latest!

It was horrible! I work right by the airport on Vets.... I had a headache all day from it. I'm at least 5 miles from that and there were burned debris flying in the air.

Excerpt from the Newsday article:
Thirty-two fire departments turned out Monday to put out a brush fire that burned about 150 of the 3,473 acres of Connetquot River State Park Preserve in Bohemia.
First Assistant Chief Rich Wilson of the Bohemia Fire Department said the fire was reported at 12:09 p.m. Bohemia and 31 other departments provided brush trucks and firefighters, and the blaze was declared under control at 4:05 p.m. Crews from Bohemia and a few other departments mopped up remaining hot spots.
No one was injured and no buildings were affected, Wilson said.
