Billing Question / Insurance Question
I am reading through my maternity packet where it states the total cost for prenatal, postnatal and delivery care is $ 4900.
And I am because isn't this covered by insurance?
I would assume so but I am confused and honestly not thinking very clearly these days.
Thanks ( I have great insurance - Empire gov't)

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
I work in the healthcare industry. Every plan is different and based on your employers decision on how & what they want to cover. The easiest thing to do is to call the 1-800 number on your ID card and ask them for your level of coverage.

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
check with your health care provider. Their is generally a deal worked out between the provider and the doctor so you'll only be responsible for what is not covered

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
don't most insurances have just a copay or deductible for delivery/maternity care? i have ghi and i looked up what they provide early on. i recall the copay being something like $300. insurance picks up the rest.

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
I have empire, total out of pocket was a little over 3000.
I had to pay a ton of deductibles. One for the delivery, one for the hospital, one for the dr, one for the baby, one for the anastesiologist.
we fought and fought...then we settled

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
4900 is the total bill probably for just the doctor. You have to pay your copays and what ever else you are responsible for. I have GHI and they cover the bill except for the copays for the doctor. The only thing I pay for now when i go to the doctor is two dolllars when I give urine. The hospital bill is something different. That bill is about ten thousand (if Im correct) The only thing I owe is three hundred dollars when I step foot into the hospital to give birth.
Hope this helps.

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
Where did you get the maternity packet from? The insurance company?
If you have any questions reading through the material just give them a call.

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
I have empire blue cross and although I have not confirmed thats what they will pay your doc. Plus your hospital. You may have some sort of Copay for hospital. All depends on how your employer set it up. But you will only pay a copay once and thats when you go to your first doc apt. after that theire is no copays (with any insurance I was told) for the office visits anyway. I will call tomorrow to find out about the other copays for hospital staff

Re: Billing Question / Insurance Question
my dh has the same plan and we didn't pay a dime. and our DD was in the NICU for 5 weeks and everyday cost about 2k.
definitely call them and ask you should not be responsible for that much.
