Bird question-not pet birds! So don't move to pets, okay???
Apparently, two birds thought we have a nice view and our window ledge was prime real estate. So they've begun to make a nest. It's cute, she's sitting there, he's coming and going with twigs Good girl! Anyway, I don't mind this at all, in fact, I'm finding it very cool! I can't wait to be a 'Grandma'
However, it's the window we put our A/C in. Think they'll be gone by July? If not, we'll choose another window, but this is out window of choice for the AC unit.

you think it's cute now, but wait till the eggs hatch. my parents have a HORRIBLE problem with this and the A/C unit in their bedroom. every spring summer the birds come back to make a nest and they suffer for MONTHS the birds chirp really early in the AM waking them up every single day for 6 or 7 months. SO ANNOYING!
they have tried EVERYTHING and the= birds keep coming back. I told my folks that would be reason enough for me to get CAC

But they aren't IN the AC. The AC isn't in the window, they are just on the window sill.

If you describe the bird or post a pic, I can tell you when they raise their young. Some birds raise more than one clutch per year.
If you're going to remove the nest and discourage them, do it now so they can find someplace else to build.
While I would be thrilled to have birds nesting that close (we're up at 5:30 anyway so wouldn't care much about noise), I would be more apt to remove the nest if it were a House Sparrow or Starling:
These two are aggressive towards other birds that struggle to survive in nesting season. Especially the second one, the Starling, that is not native and not protected.
There are nesting boxes you could put up that have size-specific holes so only birds smaller than a House Sparrow could nest there.

what kind of birds? we had pigeons and they kept having babies... it was gross b/c the bird droppings were there too and feathers and it was near my a/c (actually on it). i refused to turn it on b/c i didn't want any of the stuff coming into our apartment... my dad's a general contractor/roofer and he came and took the nest down and put up chicken wire and spikes on top of the a/c to ensure they didn't come back. I felt bad but they def. wore out their welcome... they build a nest at my neighbors house then.

See, I like that box idea, but we're in an apartment building. Also, they are probably pigeons since that is what NY has the MOST of but they kind of coo like doves.

Well, I looked before and they left...the nest...well, let's just say Extreme Home Edition Avatiation Edition have some work. But in it was one little egg. I hope they come back for it. It's so tiny.

It could also be a Mourning Dove, they are famous for nesting in really inappropriate places:
Sorry for the suggestion on the nestbox, I didn't realize you were in a building.
Sounds like you're letting them nest there for now. Maybe once the baby bird fledges, you can put up spike strips to deter them from coming back.

Those birds are so clueless- always the last to fly away when there is danger.

We had a pair that insisted on building a nest on the pedals of my mountain bike (had it stored hanging upside down on our balcony).
I was thrilled at the idea of babies, but DH wanted to kill them for cooing at all hours, so we kept knocking the twigs down to deter them. No joke, they still kept trying. We finally just took the bike down.
I love Mourning Doves, but they are definitely NOT the brightest bulbs of the bird world.....
