Birth Control Pill Question

To make a long story short, I went off of the pill about three months ago, basically because a couple of my married friends were telling me how hard it was for them to get pregnant and their belief was because they were on the pill for so long. So I was unattached at the time and decided, well I don't want those problems later on so I went off of the pill. I have always been irregular and never knew when AF was going to come, until I actually went on the pill. Now I was pretty on target the first two months after being off and now I'm two weeks late. I'm kinda scared because now I'm attached and late might not always be a good thing. So now I"m debating on whether or not to go back on the pill. (just for protection reasons and to become regular again) Figured I'd schedule an appointment with the OB for in a couple of weeks. But for those of you whom are trying to concieve and whom were on the pill.....is it taking you a long time to get pregnant, or for those of you whom gotten pregnant after being on the pill, did it take a while? I don't want to get pregnant now, I'm kinda thinking longterm. Remember, I went off because of friends having a hard time conceiving and not wanting to face this later on. But now I"m kinda worried about becoming pregnant. I hope this makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Birth Control Pill Question

First off, I want to give you some Chat Icon Sometimes your cycles are so irregular when you come off the pill & since this is the 3rd month, your cycle might not be what you though hence you are late. Remember, when you are not on the pill, things like stress & what not can trigger you to be late.

I just came off the pill in April bc we wanted to TTC. I asked the OBGYN prior to TTC if the length of time I was on the pill would hinder our efforts. I was told it didn't matter but your body just might need some time to readjust. Now it is only the first month off & we were not successfully at TTC but I did get my AF 2 days earlier then if I was on the pill. Right now my cycles are 27 days.

I would ask your OBGYN just so you can feel comfortable. If you feel the need to go back on the pill for peace of mind, I think only you can judge that.

Re: Birth Control Pill Question

I recently came of BCP as my DH and I are preparing for conception.

I spoke with my midwife before coming off the pill with regards to whether or not it will be difficult to get pregnant after being on the pill for 6 years.

She said the length of time I was on the pill shouldn't affect my fertility, I just need to allow my body to get itself back on it's own cycle and allow the hormones from BC to leave my body.

HTH!

Re: Birth Control Pill Question

I just posted a reponse on another BCP thread.

I was on the pill for 15 years. The pill does not affect your fertility. It forces regulation so your period can be regular - you always know when you are going to get AF when you are on the pill and rarely do outside influences have an effect on your cycle whereas outside stressors (medical issues, personal problems etc) can affect your cycle when you are not taking oral BCP..

BCP also masks what your cycles would be if you were not on it. In other words, it is very possible that the issues your friends had were always there but they did not know about them BECAUSE they were on the pill. My guess is that you would learn more about your cycle after NOT being on the pill for a few months.

I was LITERALLY typing the same thing!

If you are concerned about getting PG I would go back on the pill. It should not have ANY affect on your fertillity.

Definitely speak to your OB/Gyn.

Re: Birth Control Pill Question

I have been on the pill since 1994 and my doctor seems to think that I would have no problems conceiving.

She actually told me I could easily get pregnant the first month after being off the pill.
