Birth Plans
Did you actually write one out and give it to the dr. or just had one with DH talked it over? Esp. if you're ina practice where you don't know who will be on call that day - do you bring a paper with you or just talk about it?

Re: Birth Plans
This is my first pregnancy (and I'm only 8w3d) so I've never written a birthing plan. A good friend of mine did for her DS 2 years ago... she had a whole binder of stuff ready to go: many copies of the birthing plan, a sign for DS in the nursery that said "breast feeding only", etc. As she explains it, the nurses laughed at her, told her she didn't know what she was doing, and ignored all of her well-thought-out organization (this was in New Jersey). To be honest, she didn't really know what she was doing, but still- I would have been so angry!
I plan on having a birthing plan and providing copies to my practice. I will also bring copies to the hospital and hopefully have a one-page birthing plan "cheat sheet" that will be laminated and permanently in the room. I don't have a clue what I'm doing either, but at least I'll feel like I have some type of control during the process!!

Re: Birth Plans
Im not doing this. I had no idea what it was at first and then I read in my What to Expect When You're expecting book the list of things...I was laughing hysterically....they were saying things like how bright do you want the room to be, what kind of music do you want player etc.
Honestly, I have three simple requests DH knows them... #1 Do whatever you need to to get the baby out safely (not opposed to drugs or Csection) #2 No video/pics of anything below the waitsline #3 I DO NOT want MIL anywhere near me while Im giving birth

Re: Birth Plans
Both the Drs in my practice are aware that i want a natural, unmedicated birth and would like to avoid artifical induction and Csection as much as possible.
After that, DH knows the little things that i want too. I did write them down and put in my hospital bag but its more for us to reference than to give to anyone. I hear they ask alot of things that someone would have on a birth plan anyway re: breastfeeding the baby, being woken up to feed baby, etc etc

Re: Birth Plans
I wrote a birthing plan as part of lamaze when I was pregnant with DD... honestly while it wasn't a complete waste b/c it got me thinking as to what I wanted.. what ultimately happened... well- completely different.
It's hard to make a plan for something that has so many unpredictable variables.. just try & keep an open mind.

This was exactly what we did. My dr.'s knew I wanted no pain meds and I did write out a birth plan but mostly just for DH and I. I didn't give anything to the nurses or anyone at the hospital b/c like Michelle said they ask you all the important things before they do them (if you want an epi, breastfeeding only, etc).

Re: Birth Plans
no, definitely not.
labor and delivery is something you sometimes have to go with the flow for. the nurses for DS were very accomodating and weren't militant about anything. they asked what i wanted and did it. no one pushed anything. same with during the actual delivery.
my doc knew the little things i wanted like pushing as long as i physically could.
i will just tell them again if there are things i want.

Re: Birth Plans
With DS I didn't have a birth plan, and I won't with this one either. It might be nice to have something that you and DH agree on, but ultimately you won't know how things will go until its happening, so just remember to remain positive and open minded
