Birthday Party related - I know I have about 4 months to go but...
I have been thinking about Elizabeth's 1st birthday theme already. Since she was born towards the end of October, I was thinking about doing a Halloween themed costume party.
What do you think? I have been having second thoughts bc of all of the princess-y pink stuff out there that is really cute.
The party will be at our house.
TIA

Why can't you have both? Your daughter can be a princess for her costume and you can mix and match the halloween with the princess.
What were you going to do - Halloween-wise - for the tableware, centerpieces, decorations?
I bet you can be real creative and original with this!!!

I think it's cute to do a Halloween themed party.
We were invited to one for our friends kids last year but we had another party to go to so we missed out.
I agree with Ang - dress your DD up like a princess. You could also make it a Fairy Tale Halloween party and all the little girls can come as princesses and the little boys can dress as princes/knights etc. This is assuming that you have a lot of kids coming. If it's mostly adults I don't know that I would do it.
That was a mouthful - sorry about that!

Christine, I voted against the halloween party and here is my reason why (as you know Luke was also born the end of October and I have thought about this alot). Being Elizabeth's bday is when it is, I feel that there are going to be sooo many future bday parties where you can use Halloween or fall/harvest festival as a theme. The 1st bday is such a big one and can stand on its' own. Plus I wouldn't want the Halloween/costume party to overshadow the 1st bday.

Well, bc I thought the whole princess thing was so typical.......LOL - like she is going to care!! If I go with Halloween, I was going to go all out with the decorations in the house.

Good points ladies....Hmm.....Thank you I thought about that too - the Halloween overshadowing the actual first birthday.

I did a Halloween theme for DS2's first birthday and everyone loved it. I made sure to integrate the first birthday aspect into everything so it was hard to lose that as the focus.
I carved pumpkins with the number 1, his cake said "Happy 1st 'Boo'rthday" on it, I got 1st birthday mylar balloons and put black and orange latex balloons with them, etc. I thought it was fun.

Re: Birthday Party related - I know I have about 4 months to go but...
My daughter's birthday is October 16, and she will be three this year. We had it home as well, but we rented a tent, had a bounce house, a balloon twister, face painter, and a magician. We did the barnyard/halloween theme. I lined our driveway with bails of hay, had huge animal balloons tied around the bails, and then set pumpkins around them. Decorated our front porch with bails of hay, mums, as well as pumpkins. We had halloween themed pinatas, barn animal chocolate lolly pops, carmel apples, and halloween cupcakes, as well as her cake. Then for the favors we had cow boxes filled with goodies. For the centerpieces on the adult tables, we used the galvanized buckets and I painted them fallish looking, for the kids tables I painted polka dots, cute sayings, etc. In the adult buckets we had mums, and candy corn, and then in the kids we had markers coloring books, fall candy, etc. It all turned out really, really cute. So, I had the general birthday theme with halloween mixed in.
Oh... we also had bobbing for apples.

I would do the halloween any other year but the first. Its a great idea, my son is october 6th but I think it would take away from the "first".
