Bites from mosquito or something else or just allergic...confused!?!?!

MY DD has bites ALL OVER her body but two really bad ones about an inch away from each other on her upper arm...they were HUGE yesterday- the size of a quarter and today she woke up and her arm was swollen/tight and the red was the diameter of the rim of a teacup and blisters the size of quarters...
we put benydryl lotion on it last night and this morning...with very little difference!

Any other sugg advice!

Is she allergic to mosquito bites or do you think it was something else that bit her? Never heard of allergy to mosquito and I am "pretty sure" there were mosquitos in our back yard last night!

She is amazingly not bothered by them. Is it worth putting a call into my Dr tomorrow? I think I will if it is still swollen and red tomorrow!?!

thanks for any sugg/tips

Teacups and quarters... I'd call your ped. I'm glad she's not having any reaction but still, I'd call/go. Chat Icon

My husband is allergic to bee stings. When he gets a mosquito bite, it is huge. No blisters though. I would think she got bit by something else. Definitely call the dr in the morning...

From what I understand we are all allergic to mosquito bites. The red spot and itchiness we tend to get is a mild allergic reaction. But some react worse than others.

My DS used to have the same reaction. He would get bit on his leg and his entire calf would swell up the next day. Sometimes he would even get little blisters all around the bite area. It was ugly. I can say his reactions this year don't seem to be as bad as they were the last 2 summers.

You should call the dr tomorrow. They will probably give DD antibiotics. DS and I both get reactions to bites like that. Its not an allergic reaction but a reaction to the bacteria in the bite.

Been there... Evidence of pains of past

Call the pediatrician .. They asked to see AJ to be sure it wasn't getting infected and to give me info on what to look for and how to help the swelling go down.

For us its a treatment of antihistamines (claritin) and hydrocortizone along with creams to keep the skin moist and soft. The biggest issue for us was that she was so young. I wanted pro advice on what I could and could not do.

Good Luck!

most dermatogologists don't recommend sing bendryl cream - use hydrocortozine and call the doctor and get it checked out - if it really bthering try giving her bendrryl

I think sometimes when the bites are that close to each other, they could be spider bites too. But if you are nervous, a visit to the dr is never a bad idea.

Same here! It is probably from the mosquitos... my DH and sister both get HUGE welts from bites.

my ped said that its very common for kids to be allergic to mosquito bites. To treat with cordizone cream or liquid benedryl if it's really bad. Do not use the benedryl gel, it makes it worse apparently.

eta: my son's bites blow up like balloons every time.

Re: Bites from mosquito or something else or just allergic...confused!?!?!

Thanks everyone for your advice!

I went to the ped and he told me that it is not necessarily an allergy to the bites but just an infection that may have been causes by the open skin/sores

So he told me to put neosporin (?spelling?) on three times a day after warm compresses and if that doesn't improve in 24 hrs he gave me an antibiotic to use if and only if I dont see a change tomorrow!

But he def recommended the oral benedryl for the future at night if I see a bite to avoid getting it to this point!

So great at this rate I will be giving her benedryl every night of the summer! lol!

thanks again!

haha yep. I don't have AJ Benedryl cause it doesnt work as well for her as Claritin (neither does Zyrtec for some reason) but yeah, I have gone a week or more with giving AJ meds daily (morning and night because of her age) to keep her bites at bay. They swell when she's bit so bad Chat Icon I have to say its gotten a lot better with the at home treatments of creams (hydrocortozone) and liquid antihistamines and tylenol to keep her from messing with them (which is kinda what neo will do for you).
