black friday question

i'm seriously thinking of going to walmart on friday for a few items. the main item is a laptop for DS.

they open at 5am, what time should a REASONABLE person who is aware she might not get the great laptop be there?

btw, there are three walmarts close to me. i want to go to the one that's farthest from the more populated parts of town... if that helps

Re: black friday question

I think I just read that people were getting there at midnight for the whole shebang in Baldwins Walmart stampede last year.

Re: black friday question

First---check on Thanksgiving day -- early in the morning -- lately a lot of stores in the past few years have been putting their laptop deals online for purchase on turkey day. I bought a ton of stuff for DH on bestbuy.com and circuitcity.com the last 2 years.

If you want a laptop from Walmart and its not available online--I gotta be honest, you will have to wait in line as early as 1 or 2am, maybe even midnite depending on the deals.

How it works is that those who are standing in line get special purchase tickets for the big items that everyone wants, and only those who are the first ones on line can get it, and that's why people line up early.

Re: black friday question

Probably sometime on Thanksgiving afternoon.

Laptops are the hottest items, so you have to get there the earliest.

I'd start on Thursday at 8pm.

I don't blame ya

Check out bestbuy.com late wednesday night and early thurs morning -- last year you could buy their computer specials online, it was a very limited quantity, but you might get lucky. I have no idea if Walmart does the same thing or not, but you check out their website that day too.

Re: black friday question

I have done black Friday the past 8 years. If I were you, I would do cyber Monday this year since you are recovering from surgery. It gets crowded and I wouldn't want to take any chances. Chat Icon

But next year, get your running shoes on girl and get there around 2am. Now you won't beat the people that sleep there for days, but 2am is when a lot of people start showing up.

Last year I was able to get something in Walmart's Black Friday ad at midnight Thanksgiving Night. Had it shipped Site to Store and didn't even pay shipping. Try that.

You also might be able to find a similar deal on Amazon or etronics.com

I have used both sites and have gotten great deals.

I would avoid Walmart at all costs on Black Friday, especially if getting over a surgery.

Online all the way for me!!!!!!!

Re: black friday question

if you go to walmart.com and look at their black friday ad on there, you can click on an item it will tell you if the item will be available on or in stores only.

Re: black friday question

I was reading that a lot of items sold on Black Friday are lesser quality items than what they normally sell. They are actual units designed for Black Friday that are missing some features of the regular items.

So many stores are having the same if not better sales throughout the Holiday season. I would do Cyber Monday over Black Friday any year....

Even if it was free NOTHING is worth that.
