Black or Stainless Dishwasher
Our dishwasher died
Here's the deal.
The current one is black, but our fridge, stove/oven are almond. Our counter tops are almond corian and our floor is dark green. We have light cabinets with black knobs and a black matte faucet.
Should I replace it with black or stainless?
1. Black would match the black faucet and black knobs I have on the cabinets
2. Stainless seems to be what other people prefer. I only want to be in this home for another 4 or 5 years so I need to think of resale.
It is a smaller, 18" dishwasher, so they only come in stainless, black, and white (which does not match at all). They are super $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ since they are special size.

I would go with what works for you. Since it doesn't sound like you are replacing the other appliances, I don't think the color of the dishwasher will make or break a potential house sale down the line.

Re: Black or Stainless Dishwasher
although i prefer stainless, sounds like black would go better with the current design so i'd go with that...

Black. Stainless will show watermarks.

Re: Black or Stainless Dishwasher
black but its really best to match all appliances in a kitchen- would you consider getting an almond colored one to match the rest of the appliances?

I've been reading that stainless is on it's way out. If you are updating now, you might want to consider future trends.

And I have read the complete reverse. its actually on its way in, because its now available in all brands and at a lower price point making it an option for everyone, where as when it first hit the market it wasn't available in all brands, only the higher end ones

well here's the bigger question for you. if the other appliances are to break in the mean time, would you be willing to replace them with Stainless? It seems its still a very popular option and buyers are looking for them. Since you plan to sell in a few years I would buy things that buyers are looking for. when it comes to kitchens and baths, a seller sees the most resale value from them, so investing in them well is not a complete loss.

Well that makes sense, I was reading it more in a high end magazine. It was emphasizing just hints of stainless, as the all stainless look was getting too industrial looking. I guess as things become more normal, they aren't valued as much. Same thing with granite counters.
ETA: Don't misunderstand I rent, have white appliances and laminate countertops, I just read these high end mags to dream.

Re: Black or Stainless Dishwasher
Thanks all for responding - but now its tied.
Ugh!
If the fridge and stove/oven went, I would replace them but I am not going to just for the sake of upgrading.
Our place is already really renovated, and I don't want to put more money in than I have to. There is such a thing as over upgrading, and in my area, I don't think the higher end appliances are a MUST.
I think I will go with black - it will match some other things in the room and is cheaper. If the other appliances go, I can replace them with black to have it more matching.

I agree. Plus, knowing they are new, a buyer might wonder why you didn't replace with stainless.

Re: Black or Stainless Dishwasher
Go with the one that YOU think would look better. 4-5 years is a long time, and trends change. Just focus on you being happy with it.
No matter how trendy something is, it doesn't mean it's going to look right in every kitchen, either. From your description, I'm not feeling the SS with the almond.
