Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds baby name 'revealed'
...and it's not violet as reported
The name of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds' daughter is said to have been revealed by E! News.
And while it is one of the most common monikers for boys, it's an unusual choice for a little girl.
The actors have named their baby James, according to the publication.

Call me old fashioned but I think boys names should be ... for boys.
I like feminine names with boy nicknames
ex. Samantha - Sam or Christina - Chris
But not for the actual name.
I was left  when a friend of mine finally had a little girl after 3 boys... and then named her Ryan. To each their own I guess.

My SIL actually named her DD Elizabeth James. It's cute.
I think it's cute to take what is considered to be a gender specific name and use it for the opposite sex. Traditionally, my DDs name, Emerson, is more common amongst males but I think it's a beautiful girls name.
I feel like when you name your kid, there are no rules. Choose a name that makes you happy and who the heck cares what anyone else thinks.

I hate when people give girls boys names. It is asinine. Also I hate that it is only girls that get boys names.
Would you name your son Olivia?
With so many beautiful girls names I don't know why you would do that to your child.

That's what I don't like about it. Eventually a boy's name becomes so popular that it is associated with girls only & then if you name a boy that ( b/c it was his grandfather's name or something) it is considered too girly.
Carol, Kelly, Ashley, Dana, Lynn, Courtney & Lesley all used to be boy names.
As for this particular baby, I don't think this is any more true than Violet. It is all speculation unless the parents say it or someone sees the birth certificate.

I was typing a response as well because I think its a bit rude to post something like that. Would you tell someone to their face that its asinine that they named their daughter after a 'typical' boy name?
I know someone who has 4 little girls and they all have boy names - I think its absolutely adorable!

Yes, Maxwell Drew...they call her Maxi.
In the beginning I wasn't a big fan of it because my first thought was 'maxi' pad, but I follow her on IG and she posts her children a lot.
Her DD is just so stinking beautiful and the name just suits her.

I think you are setting your kid up for difficulty giving them an obviously BOYS name.
Every single time a girl named James sends in a resume, registers for school, etc, people will assume that it is a BOY. Why set your kid up for that kind of confusion. Every single time a girl name James applies for a job, people will think she is a boy. She will spend her entire life correcting people. It fine if you like the name and want to name your kids something "unique" and "special" but good lord - these kids have to live in the real world. . Its the same with unusual spellings. Why set your child up for a lifetime of having to explain themselves. There are social and societal implications.
