Blank slate...need suggestions with pics!
I am pretty good with decorating but this house is set up in a way that ideas are not flowing as they usually do. The first picture is the formal livingroom that you enter when you walk in the front door. Opposite the fireplace there is an entry into the sunroom which is the second picture.
Now I am not sure what kind of furniture and how to set up the livingroom. I didn't like how the previous owner had it situated so I'm petitioning for ideas. I should also add that directly across from the front door is a entry way to stairs that lead to the 2nd floor.
I am also not exactly sure what I want to do with the sunroom. Any suggestions??
Thanks for the help. I want to gather ideas and then if I am really stumped I will seek out a decorator...but prefer to do it on my own!

your house is beautiful!
I googled for pics for sunrooms and here is what I found. link Hopefully you will find some inspiration. What kind of furniture do you like in the rest of your house? What is your style? Colors? How formal do you want to go in the LR?

Re: Blank slate...need suggestions with pics!
I would set up a seating area facing the fireplace and parrellel to the french doors.
maybe a small sofa, with chairs on either side forming a U shape...table in the middle...rug..
I would also maybe put a chaise near nest to the fireplace and the window, to form a "reading" nook....
the room screams "comfort" to me...more than formality...if you leaving the wall colors as is, I would do light cream furnishings...with blue accents. different shapes of blue...ranging from deep jewel tone and progressively lighter from there.

Thank you so much!! You definitely got the wheels turning.
I do agree...this is not a contemporary home...although I do prefer straight lines with a very clean and comforatable feel.
I'll keep you updated

Do you plan on keeping the window shutters?

Definitely keeping them for now. Window treatments are so expensive and we have a few other things we want to do and buy before we go there. We are basically redoing one room a month, but this month we have to get the alarm system, redo the closet and buy a good bed....and then we will move forward from there.
There are so many windows in this house...it's so overwhelming

Thank you!! It is a cute neighborhood in this area called Morningside in town in Atlanta. There are mostly 1920's homes which have for the most part undergone renovations...ours just a few years ago.

Re: Blank slate...need suggestions with pics!
Beautiful rooms! Since you need to keep a wide area open for traffic flow. I think I would go with two chairs facing each other on either side of the fireplace with an interesting side table off to the corner. I would use a nice floor lamp if lighting is needed. Anchor this are with a nice rug. This would make a nice fireside reading, wine drinking, fire watching area. Put the chairs on wheels so you can move them to the other side of the room when you want to form a larger conversation grouping.
Add an interesting but tailored sofa against the wall opposite the fireplace. Then I would add larger scale coffee table. If you can tuck a another chair in opposite the window I would do that as well. Add a second rug to anchor the area.
What does the wall opening to the stairs look like?

Re: Blank slate...need suggestions with pics!
what gorgeous rooms. hard to get an idea of the space in re: to furniture recs without seeing all angles of the room. my first thought was a sectional for the LR but not sure if that will work with the traffic flow.
